Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 06/11/2025Utility regulation in the US is broken. Energy bills are up with no signs of coming down. It's not a technology problem -- It is a competition and regulation problem. We are working to fix it. Excited to have Jamie Van Nostrand on the team to help! Thefutureofheat.com/press-release 040

Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 24/08/2025All good. Happy to know for the future. I also learned my lesson not to use squarespace for hosting openings, it takes weeks to remove a link! 000
Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 22/08/2025Hi @edcarley.bsky.social I appreciate you doing this but could you please take down the listing for the job at The Future of Heat Initiative it is not an active role and we’ve had many applicants come in through your posting. (Good to know for future!) 100
Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 17/07/2025This is common developer playbook. If they need it for viability they should prove it, taking their word for it is foolish (but unfortunately commonplace) 000
Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 17/07/2025I wonder if they had takers if the space was free? (Of course they would). It was the price of getting to do the development. Lowering the price (downsizing the space/tax credits) should require all engaged parties to open their books to prove it’s for viability not added profit. 100

Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 08/05/2025We won’t hit any goals… affordability, or climate, so long business as usual is deemed acceptable (and highly profitable). 120
Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 08/05/2025Why don’t you list me all the neighborhoods where 20% heat pump penetration would require new substations. There are few for sure! But we aren’t at 20%, we’re maybe at 2%. 110
Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 02/05/2025I hope they reform mass save too. That’s not something that happens in a GSEP proceeding though. Now say something nice! 110
Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 02/05/2025The program is meant to address the riskiest pipes. The LDCs can do any work they want and seek recovery through a formal rate case. These might seem like minor details but it’s nearly $1b a year, locked in for 60 more. This is what regulation should look like. 110
Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 02/05/2025Ah so your frustration with lack of cost containment for MassSave means you don’t support cost containment efforts anywhere? Come on Xiao, you don’t have to be the grinch every day. 150

Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 04/03/2025No, my point is that this data set isn’t useful for all that much. But in general, I am all for customer choice. By the way… 48% of gas customers are using space heaters according to this data. 38% fireplaces 000
Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 04/03/202547% of utility gas homes also have backup heat. And their auxiliary use is higher than that of homes that utilize heat pumps on their primary source. I don’t blame you though Richard. Bad blog post. 030
Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 03/03/2025Costs in the future (elimination of gas charges, improved efficiency etc.) of course that’s all predicated on a well executed and planned transition. So I’m not arguing it will happen that way. But if writing a study on hypothetical paths, it would be one of them. 100
Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 03/03/2025First off, total distribution charges are increasing, I’m not 100% sure how the utilities are finagling that through cost allocation. 2nd GSEP costs are just starting to really hit customers and they are increasing rapidly. 3rd, the MassSave costs should not be perpetual and should lead to lower… 100
Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 03/03/2025For an otherwise neutral report I was surprised to see a big caveat about how electric prices are expected to rise, yet 0 analysis or statement on increase in gas prices. 110
Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 28/02/2025Very tricky, and using volumetric rates for distribution charge obfuscates the true cost of pipes for customers. People are shocked that delivery > supply but they shouldn’t be. Bad storytelling all around. But now it’s time to solve problems! 100

Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 28/02/2025Yes, I would agree, that’s not what the utilities did and that’s not what the customer feels. But you can do it that way and find same relative results (in terms of what makes up the increases) just different magnitude. 100
Mike Bloomberg @mikeebloomberg.bsky.social · 28/02/2025There are adjustments in rates by season, and the changeover from Nov to Dec (off-peak to peak) rates is foundation for the surge in bills. Colder weather means likely over-collection bc the volumetric delivery fee. Then theres the fact that that base fee is up, the GSEP surcharge, and yes MassSave. 100
