The U.S. violated a preexisting free agreement (CUSMA/USMCA) that the president signed in his first term w/ illegal tarrifs he threatened then imposed. That’s what started this trade war. Not a single mention of that key context in a 30 min podcast is disingenuous & journalistic malpractice. #Canada

When I’ve heard Pronman explain his ratings he’s said average means NHL average so it includes the entire league which means average translates to pretty good. It’s kind of an unintuitive system because without knowing that I assumed it would’ve been ranking only amongst peer draft class prospects.

110

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 01/07/2026

Agreed, goaltending can’t sink us. I expect at least league avg. goaltending throughout the season. If we’re not getting it, we need to keep making transactions until we get someone who can deliver it. Freeing ourselves of trade protections & the $6 million AAV means we can easily pivot if need be.

010

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 01/07/2026

Yes, but less so here than other less evolved corners of the web. We’ve succumb to a ubiquitous instant gratification culture resulting in folks having trouble determining the difference between a GM who’s adept & needs a bit of time to execute a considered plan & the inaction of one who was inept.

010

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 01/07/2026

Relying on goalies that are 35+ is GD risky & it blew-up in our faces last year. I’d rather gamble we can get league average goaltending from someone younger & cheaper like Daws in the meantime while looking for a longer term solution to emerge whether it’s Malek, Big Mike or someone else. #NJDevils

110

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 01/07/2026

Worst case scenario you cross your fingers Daws & Allen can provide league average goaltending. Maybe opt for the roster flexibility of carrying a third goalie you pick up through a trade or waivers. You play the odds that at least one of the three is decent to hot and switch when they get cold.

120

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 01/07/2026

Maybe. They qualified him. I’m weary of potentially relying on Daws & Allen to be able to provide 37+ good games each next season. I’m guessing Sunny is very busy exploring trade and free agent options for a 1A. But this is a better fallback plan than Markstrom at $6 million for the next two years.

120

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 01/07/2026

I love this extension by Sunny—nice value and good term. It essentially covers his prime at a very fair price in a rising cap environment while giving both Grits and the #NJDevils time to see if we can help each other reach the next level.

010

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 01/07/2026

I hope the #NJDevils fans calling Sunny Fitz 2.0 and demanding his head last week are sheepish apologising now. Moving off Markstrom while upgrading our bottom six and not retaining anything is A+ GMing. Sunny has a plan. Give him the summer to execute on it before beginning to pass judgment.

The edge he played with shines a light on the paradoxical mix of virtues & character flaws in all of us. Whether you found yourself cheering, disgusted by him, or even a mix of both, he forced you to think critically while questioning would I have been willing to do the same if I were in his skates?

000

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

He was equally adept at being the disruptive reviled nemesis as he was digging deep to be the gamebreaking hero. His ability to rise to big moments and be devastating effective at either role if that’s what he believed was necessary to help secure the win is what made him unique & a playoff legend.

For many of us whose formative hockey memories were forged watching the NHL through the ‘90s Claude Lemieux is the quintessential antihero or supervillain. How you see him largely depends on your allegiances. But even that didn’t preclude him from going from one to the other depending on the night.

110

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

If you’re referring to Draper’s thoughts about Lemieux & the hit he was asked and the video is below. If you’re referring to what he might be feeling after his death I’ve yet to see anything, but based on that response I imagine he’s saddened like much of the hockey world. youtu.be/GRJxzBf2amw?...

Yes, I’m very fond of both for what they did as players to help us win our Cups. But being a legend from your playing days doesn’t exempt you from scrutiny for your coaching/management performance. I’m glad Sunny is starting to apply & hold the coaches to a higher standard than Fitz.

If this presser is a sign of things to come under Sunny’s leadership then the #NJDevils are in good hands. He was articulate, charismatic, focused & inspiring. I have more clarity and confidence in our path to contending for a Cup after Mehta’s first 30 min. than Fitz’s entire six year tenure as GM.

040

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 17/04/2026

Alright! That was quick, decisive & opportunistic—I hope that foreshadows the mentality of Mehta’s tenure. The #NJDevils secured this cycle’s the most sought after next gen. GM & moved faster than YYZ & BNA to do it. We got our guy & did it decisively. I predict a busy & productive summer in Jersey.

It’s sad that with so much freedom, knowledge & educational resources far too many of us aren’t curious enough to challenge that narrative. It’s privileged egocentric naivety to think other countries’ issues with you are based in jealousy rather than a potential historic wrong or misunderstanding.

Never underestimate the warm cocoon of ignorance when you face no friction or consequences learning little about the world beyond your boarders. It’s also way more convenient for the West to begin the narrative in 1979 & not have to answer questions about how 1951 set the table for the relationship.

As a long time #NJDevils fans this is so old school Lou. Vegas has a Cup or bust mentality. They’ve underachieved & know something is off. This sends a warning shot through the room w/ the hope it inspires them to go on a run. Even if that doesn’t work, Torts will weed out the passengers to replace.

I’m a listener from the early days and always appreciated the format & journalism. But the Front Burner team has taken it to a new level the past year & half. They’re tackling the big and difficult stories and doing it with the depth, care & context that’s essential to unpacking our complex world.

I’m not certain this ends up as the PR slam dunk the organization is probably anticipating. They might want to consider having Devils, Sabres & NY Sirens Olympians standing together to celebrate all their Olympic achievements tonight. Some bridge building would go along way w/ many #NJDevils fans.

020

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 24/02/2026

A few years back the NHL made a big push to grow the game with the mantra that hockey is for everyone. Words count for a lot but actions mean even more. If you genuinely believe that then step up, speak out when it isn’t easy & embody the values you say you believe in by practicing what you preach.

020

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 24/02/2026

We often equate our favourite athletes’ game time heroics with greatness of character. Given that their fame & salary is paid by fan support and dollars, it’s fair game to learn and be the judge of whether our reverence for them is also earned for actions beyond their exceptional athletic abilities.

020

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 24/02/2026

That’s possible. It’s presumptuous to equate our favourite athletes’ game time heroics with greatness of character. They’re complex mosaics of flaws, virtues & paradoxes just like everyone else. It’s fair to learn if our reverence for them is also earned for actions beyond their athletic abilities.

010

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 24/02/2026

This is an important and fair question #NJDevils fans want to know. People say don’t bring politics into sports, but when you invite a politician into your locker room to celebrate a victory, it’s fair game to ask & get a proper answer about your tacit and/or explicit support of their politics.

Me too. There’s an old wine tasting saying “no fruit, no future”. It’s more for when you’re tasting older wines but it’s pretty good general advice that if you’re struggling to get fruit from a wine, it’s probably one you can skip.

000

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 21/02/2026

The craziest thing to me about Napa wines is you’re still allowed to label it a single variety like Cab Sauv while putting up to 25% other grapes in there. If you’re making a single variety don’t do it 3/4 & hide behind lax rules. Be transparent that it’s a blend & be proud to call it as such.

010

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 21/02/2026

Wine tasting notes are an obtuse special language but that one is peculiar for a Napa Cab. Seeing mineral descriptors like iodine, seashell & pencil plus revealing it’s a blend tells me the Cab Franc is doing heavy lifting. I’d expect black fruit like blackberries & blackcurrant to be prominent.

Forget all the equipment, that he hasn’t finished grade school & that his force is manned by talking canines with human-level intelligence. If you want AI to be a transformative technology, first listen to actual workers. Free them from mundane & tedious tasks in their jobs so that they can do more of the creative work & problem solving that empowers them & allows them to be difference makers. Until you can do that keep it in beta.

Mikedicaro @mikedicaro.bsky.social · 17/01/2026

Sounds like a solution-in-search-of-a-problem. You can’t be a solution if you don’t know what you’re trying to fix. Real productivity gains come when you centre humans & make their lives/jobs easier. You don’t do that by forcing them to work in unintuitive ways & piling on mistakes for them to fix.

100%! We all knew you had to move Palat and/or Dougie over the summer, but Fitz half assed it & failed. Now that we’re melting down & our dirty laundry is out in the national media, he’s spinning narratives to force a trade. It’s like letting a wound fester before cleaning it & applying a bandage.

020

Unsurprising but infuriating that Fitz has been a no show the past month while the #NJDevils have been spiraling. Now that the fiasco he created has reached a crisis point he’s quick to go to friendly national media to spin his narrative & expedite a trade in a desperate attempt to save his job.

You would’ve hoped the #NJDevils would be motivated after failing to build a three game win streak by own-goaling ourselves to a loss against our nemesis the Canes—who didn’t play particular well. Instead we give up a touchdown+ & get shut out by the Isles despite putting up 40 shots. #RIPPlayoffs
