Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 9hVery interesting. And so the switch to BEV is even more impressive. 010
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 10hThis seems so rapid. Do we know how important new cars are in Uruguay? Or are most cars imported used? 100
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 01/10/2026You do see them like this at these relative sizes from the point the photographer has chosen. But it won't look impressive to the naked eye as the whole scene is very far away so all three objects would be small. 010
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 30/09/2026You need to go very far away and then use a high zoom lens. Then you can make any two objects similar size. Obviously it is a coincidence that it works for three, and the photographer realised that at some point the three will align. 2150
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Warum haben solche stinknormalen Häuser eigentlich überhaupt Denkmalschutz? 130
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 27/09/2026The idea is that the seller of a used car does this and then receives a certificate with the SoH that can be used to make the car more attractive. 210
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 27/09/2026A lot of this can be done by yourself with a standard OBD dongle but the corrections will make this much more accurate. I have not personally used Aviloo but there are tons of videos out there. 110
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Their business model is to send out their ODB2 adapter that tracks everything for a while (I think charging the car to full, then running it to empty and charging it to full again). They then correct this for temperature, current drawn, etc. to provide an estimate of SoH. 110
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I don't know where you are but in Europe we have a few companies offering standardised State of Health estimates. E.g., Aviloo. Works quite well. 210
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Did she unfollow you? Might explain her even weirder political stances lately. 000
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I now read the study instead of the post and I was wrong. This is not a cumulative rate of cars that exited the fleet over the years as the term "road exit rate" suggests but just the fail rate at the MOT. So indeed there is survivorship bias. 120
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 26/09/2026The point seems to be that they are still in the dataset to an overwhelming extent so longevity seems to be good enough for the cat majority? 110
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Not sure I understand your point. If the battery is broken, at some point the repair cost will be higher than the value of the car, so the car will be taken out of circulation and not be part of the dataset. Of course there can still be cars with degraded batteries as long as they are in use. 100
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 25/09/2026That's not really a standard car though but some kind of off road vehicle I have not even heard of before. Ah, I see, it was never sold here in Europe. Good for you that it is still worth so much but pretty sure that is an exception. 100
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Hardly any car aged 15 or more has any depreciation to speak of, as their value already depreciated before. They are not worth much at all anymore. 220
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Wow. Because the electric cars from 15 years ago (many Leafs and iMiEVs) were cars where I would really have expected the battery not to last that long. If they are doing that well, this will be even much much better with somewhat newer cars. 250
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Do we at least see a change in car buying behaviour, e.g. a switch to more fuel efficient cars, or electric cars? 100

Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 20/09/2026It's a pointless subsidy race between countries. In the end prices will not be much lower for consumers but margins in the various steps in the supply chain will increase. What else would one expect with supply bottlenecks? 001
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 15/09/2026He must be talking about the price of fuel in Russia... 010
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 11/09/2026But that's just 2.281 Euro per litre? Sure, high, but not outrageously high given the oil prices. Pretty sure we have higher prices than that at many stations in Germany. So not sure what's the news here. 020
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Had a tight connection on Sunday and some delay so I was already annoyed to have to spend an hour at the station. But in the end the delay was so much that we would have missed the next train - had it been on time. In the end a perfect 5 minute connection on the same platform and 63 minutes delay. 000
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 07/09/2026A lot of that feeling of insecurity is fueled by social media lies. I think this is what has changed. Many of the voters of the AfD are in good jobs with a house and a car. But they worry about the immigrants raiding their house and the radical-left CDU government making their children gay. 101
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 07/09/2026I don't know. The economic situation is of course not great in Eastern Germany but if you look at the metrics they are better now than they were at many other times in the last 36 years. So objectively there does not seem to be a correlation. 100
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 07/09/2026The AfD was not extreme right wing in the first years. It was founded as an anti-Euro party (where Euro specifically refers to the currency). Of course it was then taken over by the extreme right and by now neonazis are running it. 030
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Warum gestern?
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Wieso?
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 27/08/2026It's crazy how strong the wave was going Northwest (upstream) despite having to turn right around a relatively sharp corner. The flow South seems like it would have been less impeded so would have probably been even be stronger (but I don't think there are any videos directly South of the border). 030
Mike Dee @mikedeee.bsky.social · 27/08/2026It would be great if production costs of sodium-ion batteries were to come down to a level significantly below LFP, irrespective of energy density or specific energy. Stationary storage seems to be the prime candidate for the use of sodium-ion batteries. 000
