I would have too! Pains me that 1,000 people that read the book first would mostly have Tolkien’s vision but would all be subtly different and personal. 1,000 people that saw the movie first would all have a single combination of the director and film company’s (commercial) vision + some Tolkien.

Reading down the thread I agree. I would also apply the same comments to reading vs movies e.g. in my mind hobbits are not pretty boys with pointy ears but for the generation that only saw the movie, they all have the same image.

Watched Becoming Led Zeppelin on Netflix last night. Fascinating watch and might be appreciated by non-fans. I’m a fan, more on a nostalgic than current, but no denying their sheer power. Love differing backgrounds of the band (homeless Plant, in-demand sessioneers Page and Jones). Recommended.

YouTubed him and he’s as bad as you say if it’s the NFL guy (though he might be some modern country music guy!😮) Pleased I didn’t have to listen to him Sunday when I was at the London game with my boy. Sadly Birds lost in the last seconds…

The problem is that I’ve never heard him but now I have to find out how terrible he is BECAUSE OF YOUR STUPID POST!

A lot in these 9’s outside my usual listening but, given the posters, I’m sure of the quality. Nice to see Kendrick Lamar in there though and I find it hard to separate ‘Good Kid…’ and ‘To Pimp…’ - maybe the former, just.

I’ve got a ton of Frank but not this one. TIil I hear it, the album with Jobim remains the pinnacle - subtler than many, great vocal sensitivity and one of the greatest ever songwriters.

Very true - just pointing out that uncoupling will come at a cost.

Fair comment but in reality Burnham has the same line to tread between principle, the economy and being unelectable, as his predecessors. I’d tell them to f*ck off but, like it or not, there’s a risk it lets the loons in.

Great afternoon, bad result with the last kick of the game.

So…13 seconds and a disallowed touchdown, a big fight and one player off each team won’t be appearing again…

Don’t get much chance to do car boots but I guess it’s a case of getting there early and being in the right place at the right time for the good stuff. I tend to stick to CD for used, vinyl always has risks, especially with specialist cleaning. Kraftwerk and Auger the highlights for me but all good.

This always happens…a few minutes into a Drop Out show (as previously mentioned) and there’s a tune I *have* to have. Coming out on a new Eddie Piller/Martin Freeman comp at the end of the month. The tracklist has a few faves on it but this is new to me and now essential! youtu.be/HvBuDm8yTo0

The positive of being back is catching up with three weeks of an old mate’s internet radio show on Mixcloud. Highly recommended and should be appreciated by many in this corner of BlueSky.

Just back from Portugal and out of the door to work at 6.30 in the cold. Trying to hang on to the holiday vibes so here’s a loo with a view from the venue of our last meal before returning (no, I didn’t actually eat lunch in the toilet)…

There are possibly good reasons why the mob are angry. Bigger picture - I’m all for pragmatism but not at the cost of our souls and giving away our democracy to business. Do we elect politicians as mere ‘managers’ (and generally poor ones) or to reflect the values and morals of a decent society?

Interesting listen. More of a Purdie fan than a Beatles fan but I think the conclusions are correct and I seem to recall a Wax Poetics magazine article on Purdie suggesting his claims were unlikely.

I’m with Ed, either didn’t notice it or have blocked it out. I guess if it was Apache it would have at least felt authentic, although the dubstep 😮

Think you’re right - certainly the Enjoy ones were import and I have a memory of another label too. It may be me, but I saw ‘The Adventures of…’ as when rap (Kurtis Blow, Sugarhill Gang etc.) first became hip-hop…

Yes, loved it and, given it was drama not a doc, felt pretty authentic. The birth of hip-hop was an exciting time - I’d been into early graffiti before and was also lucky to have a mate who bought the very early import 12”’s on Enjoy and Sugarhill etc. and I was at the NYC rap festival, London 1982.

We are in agreement again Ed - much more of a game-changer for me than ‘The Message’ (although that’s magnificent of course) - a door into the future and incredibly new and exciting.

Not in my book. Lucky enough to pick up a couple I needed in Japan early in the year - Japan seems to have re-released most of my wants list, most at a reasonable price too.

There is a twofer with (I think) Easy Does It - one of two of hers I don’t have. For what it’s worth, my fave of hers is ‘At Home’ recorded, you guessed it, at her home - relaxed and jazzy.

I guess - not an obvious candidate for ‘the platinum collection’ but it’s The Delfonics so still great.
