Mike Braddick @mikebraddick.bsky.social · 26/06/2026It's a simple point: you shouldn't use the resources of the state for party political advantage. Its strange that the current regime should not see the seriousness of that. 000
Mike Braddick @mikebraddick.bsky.social · 19/06/2026All true, surely. If the left and left of centre had more confidence it would going for the kill now—Reform must begin to get ‘its a busted flush’ coverage soon, and Badenoch has done her best to make the Tories look like Reform. It really could be a dominant left of centre coalition for years 3110

Mike Braddick @mikebraddick.bsky.social · 29/04/2026I agree. Terms longer than electoral cycle, but not for life. I can't see the point of a second elected chamber--what would it add to the first? I think there is a legitimate role for a second chamber in helping improve legislation on the basis of expertise, respecting the primacy of the Commons. 010
Mike Braddick @mikebraddick.bsky.social · 29/04/2026The next step is to separate the honours system--giving gongs to your mates, patrons or those holding Kompromat over you--from lifetime membership of the second house of the legislature. The latter a matter of technical competence rather than political acceptability or leverage. 1201

Mike Braddick @mikebraddick.bsky.social · 07/04/2026I agree. Would be an interesting story how 'Open Access' came to mean this, and the the power of commercial publishers relative to the Universities in the negotiation of what it would look like. I'd like to understand how it happened, anyway. 130
