You will want to run beta on a machine with some beef: a Mac M3+ with 24gb+ RAM, or a Windows/Linux device with a 12gb+ GPU (e.g., Nvidia 4070+). With a 128gb Macbook M5, you can run cutting edge models like last Friday's DeepSeek 0731 using @antirez.bsky.social's DwarfStar engine 8/9

Gezel is in very early beta for Mac/Windows/Linux from gezel.com and on GitHub as open source. Gezel + local models are resource intensive and it's early, I would recommend NOT running the Gezel app on your main machine with data you care about, just yet. 7/9

This is an experiment with UX and fundamentals. In Gezel, an "agent" is a /gezel/. Gezel is Dutch for "artisan craftsman/comrade". You assemble a crew of /gezellen/ to accomplish tasks - e.g., when creating a PowerPoint, you have a researcher, writer, and a review gezel. 6/9

Every local model - e.g., Qwen 3.6 or Gemma E4B - is its own special snowflake of behavior and functionality. At its core, Gezel is an agentic harness that has a library of adaptable behaviors that are tuned for each model to bring out their best. 5/9

If these both of these hypotheticals prove to be true -- if you, say, had "unlimited" Claude Sonnet-level intelligence easily running on your device -- we could fundamentally transform AI. Anyone could benefit from AI "for free" with no gatekeepers and no toll collectors. 4/9

2. Today, running local models is very arcane and highly technical; if we simplify the experience, more people can and will use local AI. Let's de-nerd AI. 3/9

Gezel is an attempt work on proving two hypotheses: 1. Today (or very soon), local on-device models like Qwen, Gemma, and DeepSeek, paired with tailored supporting infrastructure, on high-end-but-not-exotic hardware, can accomplish /most/ productivity tasks usefully. 2/9

To facilitate, I've added a "squigglysquare" convention which is hopefully simple to allow you to "dress up" your markdown a little bit. E.g., for an H2, you can add ## Foo {[quote]} to make it stand out like a famous quotation. You can see more at squigglysquare.com. 4/5

Sometimes you need to do more with markdown: put it into a PowerPoint, or a document, or.. even a video. And so: it is the hope of DocBlocks to let you take your markdown content and simply repurpose however you need to. That's what (docblocks.com) does. 3/5

Markdown is awesome because of it's not much: It's just basic text with simple annotations for common formatting elements. No wonder it's also at the heart of AI. 2/5

4/10 Regarding the tragedies of history: I'm not gonna lie - there are a lot of stories about people being horrible to one another on Qualla. But IMHO, we need to see how other groups can be cruel to one another based on the arbitrary labels so that we can grow.

3/10 Within Qualla, importantly, I don't want things to be clickbaited or sugar-coated or Disney-ified or in service of a for-profit agenda. I want a pure view of the triumphs and the tragedies of history, told in a manner that is foundationally and equally empathetic manner.
