I did not expect to see this.

Runner-up: Joseph Dzierwa, LHP, Baltimore Orioles
Dzierwa, 22, was also in the 2025 draft, selected by the Orioles in the second round.
He split this year between High A (eight starts) and Double A (16 starts), posting a
2.27 ERA thanks in part to his above-average command and control. It's a funky look for hitters, especially left-handed ones, and Dzierwa relies on locating and changing speeds and angles more than pure velocity. It worked at both spots, as he walked just 5.6 percent of Double-A batters he faced and struck out 27.9 percent.
He ranked second in ERA in the minors among pitchers with 100 innings pitched, and fifth if we lower the threshold to 80 innings, at which point he's behind Anderson, Tampa Bay's Jacob Kisting, and two of his teammates in Double-A Chesapeake: Caden Hunter and Anthony Eyanson. The Orioles' system has a lot of pitching coming, and when was the last time anyone could say that?

If he hadn’t been accused of lacking toughness I wonder if Basallo goes back into the game after the foul off the mask. Either way it was a horrible idea all the way around.

Catcher Samuel Basallo's season is also
over, as the Orioles placed him on the seven-day concussion injured list. Outfielder Heston Kjerstad was recalled to fill Basallo's ros-
ter spot.

August 6, 2026 the Orioles manager at the time had a different take for Holliday.

waoco.
If he'd have played it safer, Beavers would have scored after Alonso and Gunnar Henderson walked and Christian Encarnacion-Strand was hit by a pitch. Still, a prime opportunity remained with the bases loaded for Holliday. But after watching the three batters in front of him reach because Angels right-hander Ryan Johnson couldn't find the strike zone, Holliday swung at the first pitch he saw and grounded out to second.
"If he feels like it's a good pitch to hit, you've got to go," Albernaz said.
"You've got to take your shot. You can't be passive up there. If it's a good pitch to hit like that, let it rip."

Albernaz—I’m not sure why you want to put this on Basallo—but this is even worse than if you’d just said you called it

Asked about Basallo trying to bunt, which he rarely does, Albernaz said, "He came up to me when Coby was on second base, and he was like, 'Hey, if it's first and second, can I bunt?' | said, 'Absolutely.' It was a tough lefty matchup.
I get where he was coming from, and Sammy had a great team at-bat earlier in the game, getting a runner over to third. And against that matchup, you know, he wanted to bunt, and I was all for it.
"If our players want to give up themselves for the team, with first and second, I'm always for it."
Jackson didn't attempt to bunt leading off the bottom of the 10th and struck out.

How do you feel about this paragraph?

A free agent after this season, Rogers has said at multiple points in 2026 that the Orioles haven't approached the left-hander about a long-term deal. Whether they trade him likely hinges on the front office's belief in the Orioles' ability to push for a wild-card spot, but the club could walk the tightrope of buying and selling with Rogers a candidate to go.

New notebook cover just dropped. (By my daughter)

A frontal ceremonial-style mask fills the center — mauve and rose face with almond eyes, a long brown nose, brown ear tabs, a single vertical cheek line, and a small gold heart-shaped mouth, topped by a red-and-blue vertical-striped headdress with fringe tabs. Coral and pink five-petal flowers on green stems arc over and beside the mask; a marigold-orange flower and bud grow up from the lower left on crossed stems. A halved green-and-pink guava sits in the upper left. A brown monkey sits in the lower right holding a banana. The page is bordered on all four sides by hand-drawn gold triangles and rectangles with crosshatching using Frida Kahlo’s compositional vocabulary.

Three hand-decorated MD Paper sketchbook covers fanned out on a white surface. Left: a watercolor and ink painting of a stylized mask with red-and-blue striped headdress, surrounded by pink and orange flowers, a halved guava, and a seated monkey, framed by a border of gold triangles and dashes; signed. Center: a charcoal drawing of a snarling puma head with pink mouth and white whiskers on a smudged gray ground, hand-lettered “BLACK PUMAS” above.” Right: a vivid color pencil drawing of a rainbow-maned horse against a sunset-to-night sky in orange, pink, and deep blue.

Did the Orioles bullpen turn around and I not notice? Unrelated, Akin hasn’t pitched since June 28, 2026

Orioles relievers haven't allowed an earned run in the last five games and 18 1/3 innings. The only run that scored came yesterday with the automatic runner in the 10th inning.
Since June 4, the bullpen has posted a 2.90
ERA (40 earned runs in 124 innings) over 37 games. Only the Yankees (2.18), Astros (2.45) and Tigers (2.67) have a lower 'pen ERA.
Andrew Kittredge hasn't allowed an earned run in 10 games (9 1/3 innings) since June 24, and since May 18, he's posted a 1.37 ERA with three earned runs over 19 2/3 innings in 22 appearances.

I really hate when sports media and others do this when referring to the Celtics. The last time Tatum and Brown were healthy in the playoffs they won a title.

"When I looked at our team and where the league was heading, looked at the way that we've finished the last couple years and at the unbelievable way we've played in the regular season in the last couple years, the path looked a little bit more challenging to me," Stevens said. "I might be wrong. I'm not going to stand up here and be defensive about that, but the path looked a little bit more challenging, with 70% of our cap and such a high percent of our usage tied into two players [Brown and Jayson Tatum].

Well, most of their chest at least.

I am not openly rooting for the downfall of Elias or this front office. I do not casually call out people to lose their jobs. Although I often don't agree with his approach and think he's unwilling to take enough risks, it's clear to me that Elias earnestly wants to win and that he feels pain when the Orioles fall short of big goals.
If there can be a miraculous turnaround this summer, and if the Orioles can go on a magical underdog run into the postseason, that would be one hell of a story. And Elias would be a great character in that narrative - dodging the gallows just long enough to get back to the right side of the ledger.

Anna Pauline "Pauli" Murray (November 20. 1910 - [uly 1, 1985) was an American civil rights activist, women's rights activist, lawyer, and author. Drawn to the ministry, in 1977, Murray became the first black woman to be ordained as an Eiscopal priest among the first group of
women to become priests in this church.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Murray was raised mostly by her maternal grandparents in Durham, North Carolina. At the age of sixteen, she moved to New York to attend Hunter College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1933. In 1940, Murray sat in the whites-only section of a Virginia bus with a friend, and they were arrested for violating state segregation laws. This incident, and her subsequent involvement with the socialist Workers' Defense League, led to a career goal as a civil rights lawyer. She enrolled in the law school of Howard University, where she graduated first in her class, but was denied the chance to do post-graduate work at Harvard University because of her gender. She earned a Master's in law at University of California, Berkele and in 1965, she became the first African American to receive a Doctor of Juridical Science degree from Yale Law School.
As a lawyer, Murray argued for civil rights and women's rights. National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Chief Counsel Thurgood Marshall called Murray's 1950 book States' Laws on Race and Color the "bible" of the civil rights movement. Murray served on th
