What does Galicia need to start organising and establishing a hierarchy of quality? The opportunity for Galicia lies in that gap at the very top end of the quality spectrum, but to grab it we need a narrative that supports it. galiciansommelier.substack.com/p/towards-a-...

Let's talk a subject that fascinates me: the veil of flor. What it is, the science behind biological ageing, the influence of soil on its development, and the role of the veil as a tool in crafting different styles of wine. open.substack.com/pub/galician...

Following on from my previous post, I want to take a look at those Albariños of the past, understand how different they were from what we today consider a varietal expression, and explore what marked the beginning of the #Albariño boom in Rías Baixas. galiciansommelier.substack.com/p/an-archite...

In this piece I break down why everything institutions teach about #Albariño barely scratches the surface. From Roman-era seeds to medieval monasteries, from being a secondary grape to mass industrialisation, terroir- driven, and age-worthy cuvées. open.substack.com/pub/galician...

Beyond WSET: Forget everything you knew about Albariño!

The main issue in Salnés is the mass cultivation of #Albariño, which, is not sustainable. Critic voices might shout that sustainable viticulture is impossible in #RíasBaixas. But there’s still a big difference between acknowledging that…and justifying abuse. open.substack.com/pub/galician...

Rías Baixas has a structural problem — and while cutting yields may help, it won’t solve it. What Galicia needs: → A clear hierarchy of vineyards → Recognition that not all plots are equal → A shift from growers-as-suppliers to growers-as-producers galiciansommelier.substack.com/p/rias-baixa...

Rías Baixas — a deeper structural issue beyond yields
The decline in grape prices highlights the shortcomings of the current model in Rías Baixas.
