I went out last night for the first time in a long time. I got home at 145am and I can’t remember the last time I was this tired. I only had 3 beers, which kept me out longer than I had planned but I clearly can’t do those late nights anymore. Yeesh.

I bought some new sheets for the first time in about 6 years. I may never leave my bed.

I’m making some freezer meals for a friend’s mom whose husband just passed away unexpectedly. No allergy issues; any suggestions?

Because in a history course, my job is to teach students how to read sources themselves, how to analyze them themselves, how to write about them and craft arguments themselves. It's like you're asking a personal trainer to include a fork lift as part of the free weights routine.

lol there’s a new-ish school in my division that’s already being expanded to accommodate 600 more kids. My school was built in 1969, and is probably 500 students over capacity. What are we getting? A new library space, and 4 new classrooms.

The hottest scene in any movie ever is in Fast Five. I have seen this movie approximately 100 times, and I always expect Hobbs and Dom to kiss at that one point.

Seeing all the reactions to Lindsey Graham dying makes me think that we should all strive to not be reviled. And I don’t think it’s particularly hard to do that.

It’s the first day of my summer vacation. I’ve eaten nothing but carbs, had an iced coffee that never got to room temperature because I got to drink it when I wanted, and finished 2 books. I am very happy right now.

Yeah I failed at this. Though I think in 2025 I only bought 8 new books, which is actually pretty remarkable for me. Let’s not talk about 2026 so far.

It was our first day of football spring camp and it’s very windy today. I spent two hours outside and my face is wind burnt, and I don’t know if I’ve ever been happier.

The dearth of third spaces is absolutely ruining everything. I just want to be able to go somewhere to do some work and be able to stay for a while.

Someone at work asked me if there was anything they could do to help me out. I said that what I actually need is a hug from someone taller than me and for them to let me cry for a while. I don’t think that was the answer they were expecting.

Every so often I get annoyed that I didn’t buy a second (and third) bookshelf when I bought the big one back in 2004. I didn’t NEED more shelves then, but it makes me sad I don’t have a matching set.

I finally got feedback on a paper I wrote in December. I wrote it in 8 hours and the prof was like “have you considered publishing this?” I will never learn.

I sang at a funeral this weekend, for the choir conductor who passed away last month. The singing was fun, and cathartic, and even though it was a funeral, there was so much joy and music. One of the pieces we sang is called “I Have Had Singing”, and it will sit in my heart for a long time.
Text of “I Have Had Singing”, words by Ronald Blythe: The singing.
There was so much singing then,
and this was my pleasure too.
We all sang,
The boys in the fields,
The chapels were full of singing,
always singing.
Here I lie.
I have had pleasure enough.
I have had singing.

Someone very important to me passed away yesterday. He was my choir conductor in grade 12 and university, and without my membership there I would not be the person I am today. He’s been in my life for 25 years, and seemed like one of those people who wouldn’t (couldn’t) die.

My only quibble with this article is that he claims that reading is not a social activity, and I would disagree. I talk about and share books with my friends ALL THE TIME www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Reading Is a Vice
Being a reader means cultivating a relationship with the world that, by most standards, can seem pointless and counterproductive.

My sleep schedule has been completely fucked since the strike started. I have very little motivation to do anything, so instead I sleep and read.

I saw some colleagues today and it was really nice but boy do I miss the social component of my job a lot. As someone who is very content living alone, I am finally feeling the effects of the isolation, and I don’t like it. I’d give a lot for a hug or three from *someone* right about now.

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

Also if you’re in Alberta and your kids are at home because teachers are on strike, please know that we aren’t doing this to punish your kids. The UCP is punishing kids by not addressing any of the issues that we have repeatedly asked them to address.
