The website to control it is HTML only, with a bunch of links for all the functions. And because I already had a webserver and the internal state I exposed them as Prometheus metrics and made a Grafana dashboard.
A very simple website with a mode for controlling it with the board or the website, direction, speed in steps of 10, and all the switchesA grafana dashboard with a graph for speed, and the state of the switches. Stats and gauges show the current state

My weekend project was finishing up the firmware of my model railroad controller. It’s now possible to control all switches connected switches and one train via WiFi using a website

I don't have those, while I do have a whole box of 10mm M3 bolts. And the previous iteration of this case slowly grew with the extra synth modules I made/got.

I have no idea, didn't really look. For me it's a solved problem for now. It just makes it unlikely that I'll publicly release the design.

I like the end result, but I also think bolting all the segments together and pushing around the nuts in the rails on top is annoying. It’s not something I want to inflict on somebody else.

I got a Chinese 35mm and a 50mm lens for my M4 and they've been great.

For your previous two books I had to do the import taxes, so it’s not a big deal if it’s not possible. But it would be nice to not have surprise paperwork announcing that the book is getting delivered.

Oh, that would be great. The shipping cost to the EU was holding me back from immediately ordering it. Is there something that can be done with a distributor or something to simplify import taxes as well?

I got a whole set of Japanese container cars, which were pretty cheap because it came without the containers. I designed, 3d printed, and painted a whole bunch of them to fix that

Oh yeah, I hope it stays limited to some special models, and the workhorse cameras stay more sane. Some of the fancy analog cameras I got a decade ago are already at the point where I can't really justify to replace them if I have to. And it sucks that I have to be more careful with them.

Looking at MPB it's not that bad if you just want a digital camera. A 5D mkii is still a lot less than a new one. Though I do agree that it's bad that some popular models sell for more than new.

I’ve made another PCB to control my model trains. I got a bunch of switches that can be controlled electronically, and I wanted something that could do that via WiFi
A black pcb with a bunch of terminals and a green raspberry pi pico 2 w. All of it next to tracks and two trains

I kind of hope the people at the lab of Harman get to go wild and make something like Phoenix Infrared

Now I also wonder what will happen if they lose internet and the entire thing goes idle. Losing a significant portion of 824MW in the span of a couple minutes can’t be good

I remember the cohost drafts page not having pagination. Any post beyond the most recent 20 went into the shadow realm, only to return if you posted or deleted a recent one.

Yeah, I hate this as well. "Shoot Polaroid before all of it is gone" I like the messaging from Ilford/Harman and Kodak more. They show how they have been here for ages and are really investing in the future. Both in new machines and new film, but also training a new generation of people

Great talk! I still want to design a camera around the linear ccds I have in my parts collection. Seeing all the issues you bumped into was really interesting.

I had a 16TB disk fall off my zfs pool on Sunday, and with €700+ replacement cost I really hope the HBA card had issues. It’s back now and I hope it stays that way until the bubble pops.

I was only there for 2 days and spent most of that making photographs. So it was a bit intense. I did like to explore the city and got a bunch of good photos. I’m probably going back somewhere in October.
