Last time I posted here was 2 months ago! In hopes to appease the gods I am posting this screenshot. It's a box inhabited by an interstellar parasite. It has 5 randomly trigerred snoring sounds that vary in pitch for an immersive audio experience rivaled only by The Odyssey in Dolby Atmos.

A power box with the lid removed, revealing its insides. Walls of cable and technical inputs and outputs are surrounded by some stolen everyday objects. A sponge, a book, a tiny button and even a securtiy batch, dangling from the wall. In the middle we see a cable that's been chewed through. A little green parasite is taking a nap on the sponge. It's a so-called pinch, radiating green energy from chewing cables and devices.

Our favorite ghost Boogie will have a hard time keeping up with the nonsense of Cargo and Slushy. Slushy and Boogie are two little digital beings that Cargo carries around in his his Holo-Pouch bracelet. 👻

And finally, a little action! Sound on for this one, because the randomization of sounds goes such a long way to making an interface feel haptic and alive. Like these slightly randomized item grab sounds and also the clicky button-touches that happen with every button you hover over. Fun stuff!

Options! I ended up continuing down this simple, occasionally boring style to get out of the way of players. I love intricately designed UI, but this is not the game for that. I want to keep the menus to a minimum to keep the players engaged in exploring the places and the narrative of the game.🧵⤵️

The options menu returns to the simple Helvetica-like font on a plain blue background with several gradient rectangles separating the individual options including a full-screen toggle, language selection, auto skip option, individual volume bars, and a context sensitive info box in the top right. It shows the players more information about the option they are hovering over presently.

Inventory! The hope is to have it bright and readable and to present items — those are super important in an adventure game — big enough without obscuring too much of the scene. I also love that textbox at the top giving you more information about everything your cursor is hovering over.🧵⤵️

The inventory of Nova Forever comprises a simple blue square divided into a grid of items with colorful backgrounds. To the right side of it the players can expand a menu to a save menu, options and a quick button to exit the game, because they need a coffee break or maybe a break in general from all the impending doom in this world or something like that. The right side explains that clicking on items will cause the standard pointer to change into a pointer-version of the item’s image. This is to provide an obvious point for the players’ cursor and not to slip and fall from missing an object you want to combine stuff with. That would hurt!

Main Menu! Nothing but the options in the games’ helvetica inspired font. When hovering, simple rectangles highlight those options. Focus here is much more on the scene — a cozy loop of Nova’s desk with hot tea and her work computer + a bonus appearance of Boogie the Ghost and Slushy the Slime.👻🧵⤵️

So what do I mean when I say Nova Forever will be a buddy comedy in space? The buddy comedy or buddy film is a subgenre, often about contrasting personalities and traits that clash with each other. Nova Forever at its core, is about our differences and about overcoming that division. ⤵️🧵

Replaying Day of the Tentacle always feels like home to me somehow! I'm trying to learn more about why I love this game so much. Maybe it's the unique vibes, the setup of that one mansion over time and the bizarre situations. I love how this game makes sense of the nonsense! (If that makes sense)✨

Our heroes Cargo and Nova stand at the counter of the racing-themed Pit Stop Bar, where a seemingly unconscious person is strapped into a racing seat while a miniature car is administering a drink to them through an opening in their racing helmet. Cargo yells out "Woah!". The counter is made of asphalt, and the entire bar is full of checkerboard patterns and corny, racing themed props.

A dark and dangerous looking elevator dangling over a steep elevator shaft, while the heroes Cargo and Nova can be seen trying to repair the elevator that is stuck with no electricity.

The main character Cargo standing in the middle of his tinker room inside an asteroid. A drone is shooting up into the room through a hole in the ground, startling two holographic creatures surrounding it, called Slushy The Slime and Boogie The Ghost.

Started to implement some smaller dynamic music systems. Nothing too complicated, but with a lot of impact nonetheless! The goal is to have some rooms and sections in the game, where the music shifts smoothly into an alternate version of the piece (in sync) that has a slightly different sound. 🎶
