Don’t forget a chicken. Every mule story has to portray an impossible friendship with a chicken. It’s a rule. Can’t remember the source but definitely a rule.

Arguably for a Phoenix to rise from the ashes one would have to fail first so at least two of those might still be able to achieve nominative determinism *because* they miss the playoffs this year. The wild card is if Nix doesn’t nix.

This is the particular one I saw. But I like that one you included too.

It eerily rings true with the Carl Sagan quote that is circulating again where he talks about fearing an era of the celebration of ignorance. And not being able to distinguish between what feels good and what is real.

HEAT was released 29 years ago this week. Acclaimed as one of the great crime thrillers of the 1990s, and the film that brought Al Pacino and Robert De Niro on screen together, the making of story will walk out on you in 30 seconds flat… 1/46

Had the joy of attending a symphony orchestra and sitting close to the double bass. The bassist seemed to implement a temporary bridge a couple times and possibly a temporary nut(?). I presume this is to shift the tuning quickly?

I was absolutely fascinated to read that union grievance that hinged around the Oxford comma. Never cared about it before and now feel like a big champion of it. #OxfordCommaLove

I came for the objective political discussion. I’m staying for The Muppets.

I’m trying to educate myself on an “objective middle” approach and will continue to read arguments for and against that concept. If you have any key pointers to pass along please do.

There has got to be a better way for objective discourse but we seem to have lost it or maybe never had it.

Right now it seems like only extreme thoughts are accepted as a means of countering the “other” extreme thoughts and whoever gets power can enact their extreme thoughts and suppress the other’s.

With rational thought, “extreme” ideas can be considered for their merit regardless of where on the spectrum those thoughts might be placed.

I’m hoping that there exists a middle where rational thought occurs and it doesn’t mean automatic compromise or moderation by design.

Thank you for that. Such a dark truth when written so starkly. Our current reality defies the logic I wish was more prevalent.

What I haven’t figured out in my mind yet is what message would the centre go for that isn’t interpreted or labeled as status quo. I think it has to do with your thought on cohesion.

The left or the right claiming to represent the centre only works if no one is truly representing the centre. The polarization of opinions means that elections are won and lost by getting the reluctant centre to tip one way or the other.

The bell curve of people on the political spectrum suggests most of us are moderates. There has to be a strategy there (and accounting for the Overton window).

I got ruminating about centrism because it seemed like liberals trying to occupy the centre was a poor strategy. In a sense only centrists can occupy the centre and if they are centrists they are neither modern day liberal nor conservative.
