This spring, real wages fell year-over-year for the first time in three years. Two-thirds of Americans said they were cutting back spending. Stocks kept hitting record highs the whole time. And that's a K-shaped economy doing exactly what it's built to do.

As US stock market hits new highs, 2 of 3 Americans are cutting back on spending, survey shows
U.S. consumer confidence declined slightly this month as gas prices stayed high and inflation remained elevated, a sharp contrast to soaring stock prices that have neared record levels.

In 2011, economists, Hill Dems & progressive wonks all agreed: a $15 minimum wage was economic madness. Seattle did it anyway. Every prediction proved wrong. Since then, 138 state-level minimum wage increases have been studied. Researchers found zero evidence of job loss. None.

A functioning economy requires functioning infrastructure—literal and human. Healthcare, housing, a safety net that works. These aren't radical asks. They're the preconditions for growth and the data backs that up.

76% of Americans now name the cost of living as their top economic worry, up from 58% a year ago (CNN/SSRS, May 2026). An 18-point jump in 12 months isn't people getting gloomier. It's people noticing that the rules governing prices, wages & housing aren't built to work *for* them.
