We’ve launched our Medical Care for All! fundraising campaign to support the care of rescued animals via micro-grants to help with the cost of preventative, planned, and emergency medical care for formerly exploited animals. You can donate on our website today!

With rising egg prices due to avian influenza, people are fixated on the PRICE of eggs, but not considering the true COST of eggs for the birds…

At MRC, our goals are to continue promoting high, companion-level care standards for all non-humans; to break down the speciesist divide between “companions” and “others”; to empower activists of all backgrounds to participate in animal rescue; and to help achieve liberation for all beings.

There’s nothing humane about treating an animal well only until it’s profitable for them to be eaten and discarded. Read more about the contrast between the humane hoax and sanctuary on our latest blog post: microsanctuary.org/2025/03/04/t...

When a chicken egg hatches, there’s a roughly 50 percent chance that the chick inside will be male. This is a problem in the egg industry, where it’s cheaper to kill male chicks after birth than to raise them as broilers.
A graphic showing how six billion newborn chicks are killed:
- Eggs hatch at an egg-laying facility.
- Males are culled via maceration, gassing, suffocation or electrocution
- Females grow up to lay eggs

The industry tells people that those of us who are against the AVMA legitimizing the mass extermination of influenza-infected flocks with heatstroke have no viable alternative. Yes, we do. Learn about it here, and ask your tough questions. zoom.us/webinar/regi... #h5n1 #onehealth #avianflu

It’s scary times in a lot of ways right now… For those who care for chickens and other birds, please monitor the situation with avian flu. Biosecurity measures on sanctuaries remain critical to avoid resident exposure and risk of spread. www.aphis.usda.gov/news/program...

As we always love to point out, #roosters are protective, nurturing members of their flocks. They monitor for potential danger and stand by their flockmates when they’re occupied with activities like dust bathing, eating, or laying. Good job, Bridgers! #veganswithchickens

As the avian flu outbreak has continued to spread, the government bailout of the poultry industry has ballooned too, with indemnity payouts and additional compensation totaling $1.46 billion.
How U.S. Taxpayers Bailed Out the Poultry Industry, and Helped Entrench Avian FluCal-Maine Foods, the nation’s largest egg producer, appears to be having a bumper year.

The company’s stocks soared to a record high, as its net sales rose by a staggering 82 percent last quarter. It also received $44 million in indemnity payouts due to bird deaths tied to avian flu.Through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection indemnity program, poultry farmers are paid for “infected or exposed poultry and/or eggs that are destroyed” to control bird flu.

The bailout is set to only expand as H5N1 spreads, prompting the mass culling of more domestic flocks."Why should this high-risk business be bailed out? What we’re seeing is the largest corporations are receiving the most in indemnity payments, and they’re using the most brutal methods of depopulation."
