We must rid police from traffic stops. As noted in Safe Roads for All “even when police traffic stops do not escalate into violence, multiple studies have documented how these stops cause stress & trauma with potentially negative effects for community health & well-being.” apnews.com/article/will...

The trouble with #penuricide is that all the customers die. It's hard to run an economy based on parasitism when you've killed off the host. . . . or rendered them so powerless & penniless that they are customers no more.

Dug into the APP video claims. Apparently CPP is flawed because… DEI? 😬 I read the research, checked with economists (even every Tombe), and guess what? (see alt tag) DEI doesn’t hurt returns. It’s just a culture war decoy. So how can I trust UCP when their claims lack evidence? #ABleg #ABpoli

The Alberta government’s inclusion of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in its messaging on the proposed Alberta Pension Plan (APP) is analytically unsupported and politically revealing. Presented as a factor undermining investment returns, this claim lacks empirical grounding. Extensive literature shows no evidence that DEI harms fund performance. For instance, Edmans, Flammer, and Glossner (2023) demonstrate a positive correlation between DEI policies and firm-level stock returns. Hegde and Peng (2025) find that asset management firms with more diverse teams exhibit stronger risk-adjusted performance. Brummer and Strine (2022) argue that DEI reduces reputational and legal risks, strengthening long-term institutional value. In Canada, leading economists such as Trevor Tombe, Kevin Milligan, and Jack Mintz have written extensively on pensions but have not associated DEI with underperformance in the CPP or similar funds.

Rather than a financial critique, the mention of DEI functions as a political dog whistle—evoking ideological opposition to equity initiatives without offering evidence. While commentators like Den Uyl (2025) express philosophical resistance to DEI and ESG frameworks, they too offer no quantitative data showing diminished returns. The academic silence among Canadian economists further indicates that DEI is a non-issue in rigorous pension policy analysis. By invoking DEI, the APP narrative shifts attention from substantiated issues like actuarial forecasting, asset portability, and intergovernmental negotiation (Tombe, 2023), and inserts divisive rhetoric into a space that should remain focused on sound, evidence-based policy.

NEW: My staff got a new breakdown of who wins under the latest version of the Republican tax plan. See for yourself. Unlike Republicans, the numbers don't lie.

A bar graph titled tax cuts under the Republican budget. The X axis is titled household income level, one bar shows the tax cuts for a household making $30,000 a year or less, which is $151. The other bar shows tax cuts for a household earning $2 million a year or more, which is $308,763. The Y axis is labeled Republican tax cut and dollars.
