Painting a new card for my **Nahua Lotería**. This one shows Tlaloc’s vessel, pouring life-giving rain. It speaks of **abundance** and the **sacredness of water**. Each card is part of a tarot deck of ancestral symbols. \#loteria #tlaloc #indigenousart #mexicantarot #nahua

Pride Month unfolds, a time to honor the resilience and joy of queer love. My painting shows two Nahua women in El Salvador, making pupusas—a tribute to everyday love. El Salvador holds a special place in my heart. May this month celebrate love in all its forms. #PrideMonth #QueerLove #Nahua

In Huey Tozoztli, we honor the Lords of Corn. Chicomecōātl is ripened maize, sacred and alive. I painted Her as part of my Chicano/Mexica spiritual art. Download a free high-res file to print for your altar— www.deviantart.com/micorazonmex...

Drawing and painting the sacred hand of the Tonalequeh—Mexica Lords of art, joy, and movement. Their glyphs mark the heart of this oil painting, part of my spiritual Indigenous Chicano art. I’ll share the full piece soon—prints will be in my Etsy shop. #mexica #chicanoart #aztec

We are now in the veintena—or “month”—of Huey Tozoztli, when we honor the lords of maize. This image comes from next year’s Indigenous calendar, taken from my “Aztec” tarot deck. A young farmer leans upon his coa and reflects on his labor.

This painting shows a nahual—a shape-shifting figure from Indigenous Mexican tradition—transforming into a jaguar to bring rain and maize. Inspired by the ancient murals of Cacaxtla, and rooted in Chicano, Mexica, and Native identity. #nahual #indigenousart #chicano #mexicanartist #aztecart

For Mermay, a painting of queer Indigenous love from Guatemala. The Xocomil, a water spirit of Lake Atitlán, falls for a girl who bathes in its waters. When she disappears, the lake turns stormy with grief. In this version, the Xocomil is a Mayan mermaid. Prints in my Etsy—link in bio!

Today is 6 Death, a day sacred to the Moon—who was born on a day Miquiztli. Last night was the full moon. To honor her, I painted myself in white chalk, like Tecciztecatl, the Lord of Snails, who appears in our codices pale, luminous, crowned with shells.

I practice ceremony—and make art—with my friend Rojas, who is Purépecha, Mexican, and Chicana. In a recent shoot, they painted their own body and that of our friend Aaron in the style of ancient Chupícuaro, from Michoacán—ancestral land of the Purépecha.

We are Chicano. We are Mexica. We are dancers and children of the maize. Tozoztontli—the Small Vigil—is the first of the great maize ceremonies. It marks the turning of the seasons. The fields are still dry and golden, but we call for the rains. We begin again.

This is my new painting: The Tree of Tozoztontli. We’re in the “month” of Tozoztontli, when we honor the Lords of Maize and call the rains. Trees are adorned with flowers, Tlaloc masks, frogs, and corn—becoming altars that intercede with the rain “gods.”

Drawing a fire-bearer. There are many different roles in ceremony, and one of the most important is the fire bearer. Through their work they call upon Chantico and Huehueteotl, the lords of fire. In their sacred smoke our prayers, intentions, and gratitude are carried to the Teteo.
