100K+ New Yorkers gathered yesterday across more than 25 blocks—Central Park to Penn Station—to say no to the lawlessness of the current U.S. government. No kings. No wars by fiat. No detention w/o due process. No masked agents. No cuts to healthcare. That's my short list. What's yours? #NoKings3

Today: drizzly, with a lot of democracy. Thousands of New Yorkers out and about to send one Flag Day message. . . no kings. Full stop.

Word on the street: Bring Kilmor home now.
A New Yorker says it loud: a man in a baseball cap, orangish-red sunglasses, his face painted with stars and stripes, and an American flag worn like a cape, holds a sign that says "Bring Kilmar Home, Now!" while he spreads his message like a modern-day Paul Revere. The name is standing in front of the Louis Vuitton flagship store, which is dressed up like a giant overpriced piece of luggage. April 19, 2025. #no-kings

Tens of thousands of New Yorkers showed up for democracy and the rule of law on a sunny Saturday in New York City. April 19, 2025.
Tens of thousands of New Yorkers gathered at 5th and 42nd Street, outside the New York Public Library Building, to stand up for democracy. This photo was shot from several stories above street level and shows people packing the blocks on Fifth Avenue from 40th Street to 42nd Street and around the corner to Sixth Avenue. The day was bright and sunny.

Best of show. New York City. Tyrant. Let them eat Teslas. #handsoff
An American flag swirls in the wind above New Yorkers protesting the current U.S. government. One holds up at hand-painted sign that uses the iconography of Goya's Saturn Devouring His Son, but in this case, Saturn is the current president and the son is the image of flag. Behind them two signs read "Let them eat Teslas" and "Hands Off."

Today was a good day. Cloudy with a chance of protests. #handsoff #nyc

Two weeks ago, in our local Duane Reade where we get our Rx's, I knew something was up: they were packing to close, but no one was allowed to say anything about it. 🤫 They were acquired by Walgreens in 2010. They transferred our scripts to CVS. No more pharmacies left.

Just a reminder from Rosemarie Garland-Thomson's February 23, 2017 lecture on #eugenics at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law . . .
The photograph shows a lecture hall with people sitting at rows of desk as disability scholar Rosemarie Garland-Thomson talks about eugenics. A slide is projected with a quotation from Hannah Arendt's 1963 book "Eichmann in Jerusalem" that reads, "Political regimes ought not to determine "who should and who should not inhabit the world."

Photograph of stenciled sidewalk graffiti of a great swirl of green toned as a heart with text "PROTECT YO HEart" by UNCUTTART and the converse-chuck-tennis-shoes-clad feet of the photographer.
