Corbyn's response to May's proposed Gender Recognition Act reforms:
Jeremy Corbyn, the Labour leader, has said May would have his support if she scrapped the requirement for trans people to undergo medical tests, and instead allowed them to self-identify their gender, saying legislation could be passed with Labour's help.
In July, Corbyn said: "Discrimination has gone on too long. The Gender Recognition Act does not allow trans people to self-identify their gender and forces them to undergo invasive medical tests. This is wrong.
"Labour recognised this in our manifesto, pledging to update the act. Theresa May told Pink News that 'changes need to be made' but failed to include anything on this in the Conservative manifesto.
"So, I say to her, Labour will help you keep your promise. Bring forward a bill to update the act and improve trans rights and Labour will back you. You can give your MPs and the DUP a free vote and Labour will make it law."

It was one of those "How did they even reach that conclusion?" decisions. Enzo goes for a header from this position but wasn't interfering. Funny though.

Being prohibited from marriage is also an injustice with some material impacts as it pertains to shared health insurance, federal benefits, or legal agreements, but it is simply not the same as losing your health care, losing your career, losing equal access to public spaces, losing your passport, losing your driver's license, losing your housing, being threatened with prosecution, or being threatened with having your children removed from your custody. Combined with the fact that transgender people weren't doing well even before this wave of new restrictions - enduring higher rates of poverty, homelessness, physical violence, sexual violence, and illness while being overrepresented in our country's foster care system, juvenile detention, survival sex trade, and prisons - I'd ask you to forgive trans people for being "maximalist" in defense of our own lives.

When Obama said he supported civil unions in the run-up to the 2008 and 2012 elections, he was offering gay people a slower pace of progress. When Democrats today triangulate on transgender rights, they are offering us a slower pace of decline.

"Strong Christian message" Like so much of the Christian right, their words and actions bear little resemblance with the words of the Bible. Christianity is largely just used as a stand-in for whiteness rather than indication of actual beliefs.
Matthew 25:34-46

34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.

37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?"

40 "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'

1 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

44 "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?

While I appreciate your standing for trans people, your point about cis men pretending to be trans men is undermined by the fact that trans men can be removed from both gendered spaces under the guidance, as is now happening to trans men.
FtM transgender facing two different issues at work? England.

Comments Moderated

Brother in law is trans FtM and presents fully as a man. He's now facing an impossible situation at work with his employer telling him that due to recent legislation he must use the toilet of his birth gender. BUT several female colleagues have raised a grievance about him using their gendered toilet.

His employer has told him that he cannot use the toilet while he is at work until they sort it out and cannot give him a timeframe to do so. They do have disabled separate toilets.

In the mean time one of his female colleagues has accused him of sexual harassment because he was used their gendered toilet. His menstrual cycle meant he needed to use the toilet.

He's been with the employer for just over 5 years but only in this location for 18 months. The location is mainly male with just a handful of females, and his workshop only has male toilets.

I do not know how to support him and as he's not in a union there is no one to turn too right now.

In 2019, Schroder was arrested twice within a month for suspicion of domestic violence; no charges were filed [40][41]

In 2020, Schroder contributed $150,000 towards the $2 million bail fund for Kyle Rittenhouse, a 17-year old charged and later acquitted in the shooting deaths of two people during the August 2020 unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin.[42][43][44][45]

In 2021, Schroder created controversy when he uploaded a video to social media that showed him harassing a Costco employee regarding the company's policy and California mandatel46] requiring face masks or coverings to be worn inside stores during the COVID-19 pandemic. 47 Shortly after the incident, Schroder began receiving backlash, causing him to upload a second video apologizing to the employee, stating that while he stood by his beliefs on the mask mandate, he was sorry if he hurt the employee's feelings. [48)[49] Later in the pandemic, on 2022, Schroder entered the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library without a mask, and upon being notified that masks are required for entry, called the security guard a "Nazi" for enforcing "evil federal government" mask rules. He left the building without incident, [50]

Obviously. I was summarising the paragraph below. "Your problems may be caused by an MP, but that doesn't mean I should have to read about them." Would you consider that a fairer summary?
As the office manager for the Labour MP for Preston, and an executive
committee member for the WWG, I encounter this distress every day. In an
MP's email inbox are images that no one should see. These include murdered
children, flayed animals, nude images and graphic pictures of war zones, all
sent by constituents to try to strengthen their points or illustrate the reality
of the situations they face. While photos are often triggering, so is some
written communication from constituents who urgently need their MP's
help. Vivid descriptions of child abuse, domestic violence, physical ill health
or the thoughts of people who are severely mentally ill or suicidal take a
huge toll. The reality is that usually it is not the MP who opens these

Just exhausted by this. "We can't reject the guidance, otherwise JK Rowling will sue!" The law is the law and can't be changed apparently. "Why don't you think I'm taking your concerns seriously?"
Thank you for taking the time to write to me again.
I'm surprised by your statement that "It's been clear for some time that you have been refusing to take the impact of Labour's treatment of trans people seriously." I have met and engaged with several trans constituents, all of whom appear to have recognised and appreciated my approach, so I am not sure what it is that leads you to come to this conclusion, please expand?
As I said in my last letter, I am open minded to hearing how the guidance can be improved. However, simply repealing the guidance leaves a void which is then filled with lawsuits, and the further weaponizing and demonising of different groups that we have seen.
The code does not make the law. It merely explains how to follow the law. It sets out the obligations of service providers in order to help them comply with the Equality Act. If for some reason the code is rejected, the law will remain unchanged, but confusion about the law will spread and there will be far more costly and unnecessary legal action, as arguments about policies concerning single-sex spaces and services are resolved by the courts.

The Green Party spokesperson said: "Zack condemns the image on the T-shirt. He was tagged in a post with 20 images and clicked accept without realising there was more to it than he had seen.

"The T-shirt is clearly in poor taste, especially at a time of heightened fears for the security of public figures, having experienced multiple threats himself.

Women's Rights Network - Feile cancels the voices of women

N.Ireland

21 July 2026

Women's Rights Network Northern Ireland is shocked and deeply disappointed that Féile an Phobail has cancelled our event, Respect, Rights & Reality, after previously accepting it into this year's programme.

Our event was a discussion on women's sex-based rights. That was made clear to Féile when our application was submitted.

This decision follows an organised online campaign against the event. That campaign included misogynistic, abusive and, in our view, threatening rhetoric directed at women associated with it. No organisation that values free speech should allow intimidation to determine which voices are heard.

Féile describes itself as a festival of the pople, of ideas, culture and debate. We therefore have to ask whether its commitment to free speech extends only to viewpoints with which it agrees and only to some people.

Through this event women have sought to discuss their own rights. Feile has chosen to silence the voices of the very group that makes up half the population. Women are not a fringe interest group. We are half the population.

Women advocating for their sex-based rights are not campaigning against the rights of others. We reject any attempt to misrepresent either our organisation or the purpose of this event.

We remain committed to ensuring this important discussion takes place.

This decision will not silence women.

Adding the full thread from Gina.
I brought the "upskirting law" into effect in 2019.

Let's talk about that image JK Rowling shared.

She did this to humiliate artist Freda Wallace. That is a specific motivation we included in the Voyeurism Act. We fought for, and included it *specifically* because men often upskirt women (it is overwhelmingly men) to "punish" them for their bodies, clothing and for being a woman, by humiliating them.

That's called misogyny and it's what we're witnessing Joanne do here: transmisogyny.

It goes like this:

1. Target someone you dehumanise

2. Assert power with demand (Joanne wanted to debate Freda, for me a man wanted a "yes" to his advances)

3. If they refuse, punish them by capturing a "humiliating" image of their body

4. Share it to exert power and humiliate

Exact same logic. Now, Joanne didn't capture this image and she didn't capture it 'beneath' Freda's clothing, which adds questions about prosecution under the Voyeurism Act (though it doesn't 100% discount it).

Sharing the image is a separate issue here too

Even if it didn't fit neatly under The Voyeurism Act, that doesn't make it any less wrong.

The law is *never* a guide for morality and laws do not reflect the complex ways people harass and/or assault people.

Joanne is spending millions and committing her life to pushing trans people out of public life.

She is a harassing, harmful bully contorting the logic of advocacy to hurt marginalised people and retain some sort of twisted relevance.

I support trans people to live free from harassment, harm and demonisation.

I always will.

Because I believe in human rights.

I do not, and will never, support a billionaire using wealth and power to harass and harm people of any gender.
