Without him, there would be no 'the shunting' and the world would be a far less interesting (and a far less gooey) place. Wishing a very happy 77th birthday to Brian Yuzna.

The horrifying ‘Sloth’ scene in David Fincher’s Seven has to be one of the most effective sequences in modern horror, and the FX are outstanding. Hardly surprising given the presence of the expert hand of Rob Bottin (The Thing, The Howling etc). But there was a secret ingredient... 1/2

Born on this day William Friedkin (1935-2023). Here he is behind the scenes of what is widely agreed to be one of (if not THE) best horror movie ever made, The Exorcist (1973). Friedkin wasn't actually first choice as director. Stanley Kubrick, Arthur Penn and Mike Nichols all turned it down.

Wishing a very happy 64th birthday to David Fincher. For me, the sloth scene, more than any other in Seven (or in Alien 3) demonstrates Fincher's chops as a horror movie maker. It's a real shame he hasn't gone on to make another horror flick.

Slasher? Folk horror? Supernatural horror? Cosmic horror? Found footage? Psychological horror? Creature feature? A mix of some or all of the above?

Altered States (1980) and The Lair of the White Worm (1988) are both very fine examples of the sheer cinematic audacity and borderline lunacy of the late, great Ken Russell. Altered States is by far the most compelling, but Worm is so very, very entertaining. Thoughts?

Little to no studio/distributor interference, so anything could happen? A cast of unknowns means we don’t know who’s ‘next’? Or are we just more forgiving of shoestring filmmakers, provided they demonstrate imagination, originality and grit?

Controversial opinion. The Breathing Method in @StephenKing's Different Seasons is a better story than Apt Pupil. If I was rating all four 'seasons' from best to worst, I'd go: 1. The Body 2. Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption 3. The Breathing Method 4. Apt Pupil #horror

Here's a lovely photo of a plethora of my fabric art creatures. They're on green fur with a galaxy print fabric in the background. There's a black cosmic moth with a gray face, twinkly red eyes, and a wide smile full of sharp teeth. She's covered with embroidered stars and planets of various sizes and colors. There's a watermelon ghost covered with embroidered pink flowers sitting on a pink wire chair. There's a watermelon ghost bag and a small homunculus sitting on a pink and green striped chair. There's a tooth creature with a wide open mouth and four orange eyes and lavender eyeshadow. There's a black phantom with a gray face and wisps of every color of the rainbow.
