The numbers behind three consecutive Premier League clean sheets for Liverpool as Andoni Iraola becomes just the fourth permanent #LFC boss to remain unbeaten in his first five top-flight matches with the club. My round-up of Sunday's win at Bournemouth mreidstats.substack.com/p/lfc-v-bour...

Three consecutive Premier League clean sheets for Liverpool for the first time since September 2024. Alexander Isak the first Liverpool player to score the winner in 2 straight away league games since Darwin Núñez in Dec 2023/Jan 2024. Solid win, that. #LFC

Only one player has more goals against Liverpool at Anfield for Premier League clubs in all competitions (Andy Cole, 8) than Marcos Llorente has there for Atlético Madrid (5). Llorente has never played in the Premier League.

Just a quick two cents. Regardless of what happens in what's left of the window It's really important that fans get behind the manager and the team. Don't let it get toxic. Help Iraola to make the most of whatever hand he is dealt. Up the Reds

I don't think dominant is the right word. I do say in the article though that Newcastle were very much restricted to counter attacks only even if Liverpool weren't fully dominant.

Liverpool spent 92% of Andoni Iraola's first match in charge losing. That didn't help, but twice they equalised, firing in 27 shots in the process. There are positives. All the stats in my review of Liverpool's first match of 2026-27. #LFC mreidstats.substack.com/p/lfc-v-newc...

You can't have unlimited HG players. If you register 17 non-HG, you can only register 8 HG. Basically, the maximum is 25. All 25 could be HG if you wanted, but only 17 can be non-HG.

With Ronald Araújo confirmed, here's where Liverpool's squad stands for 2026-27. Araújo is the 17th senior non-homegrown player, which hits the limit. So it's now mostly one in, one out for #LFC.

A lot will change between now and September, so it's too soon to answer that. It's merely something the club will have to bear in mind

Ekitike being injured solves one of the slots
110
Michael Reid @michaelreid.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
I'd worry more about the 19 PL games than 8 CL games when planning the squad. If, say, Leoni and Ekitike (who likely won't be fit anyway) have to miss out on the 8 CL games, that is what it is as long as both can play in the PL when fit.
120
Michael Reid @michaelreid.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
Leoni and Jacquet only count for CL, not PL

Well Woodman and Davies are there too. Mrozek also - all HG players.

Michael Reid @michaelreid.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
I *think* (though could be wrong) that because he doesn't turn 19 until 2027, he would have 3 years as a non-senior player - which would therefore make him count as homegrown in 2029-30!
020
Michael Reid @michaelreid.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
Yeah Ramsay is the most likely. And as you say, if another forward arrived, then one could leave. You could even arguably loan Mamardashvili if needed and use Jaroš (injury dependent) as #2 for a year.
010
Michael Reid @michaelreid.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
Correct, Mbaye wouldn't count towards a 25-man PL squad but would for the CL.
010
Michael Reid @michaelreid.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
No! If Barcola also arrived, it would be 18 and one would need to leave.
210
Michael Reid @michaelreid.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
Correct mate! Araújo would take us up to 17 non-homegrown which is the limit. So it's now one in, one out for that - otherwise someone will be paid a wage to not even be in the squad.

So now had a proper look Netherlands v Sweden yesterday was only the second ever World Cup match to see 6 goals scored by Premier League players (excl. OGs), after England v Panama in 2018. Before yesterday, the only non-England game with 5+ PL scorers was Scotland v New Zealand in 1982 (5).

Liverpool's points-per-game dropped by 28.6% from 2024-25 (2.21) to 2025-26 (1.58). Only once in the last 100 years have #LFC had a bigger drop off from one top-flight season to the next. And that was 30.3% from 2019-20 (2.61) to 2020-21 (1.82) - so following on a 99-pt season.

Liverpool's XI today has made a combined 2,571 appearances for the club before today. That's the most by a Reds starting XI for any match since May 2013 v Everton (2,587) - which was the last time both Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard started together for #LFC.
