iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

The night grows stronger when culture is distributed. Amsterdam backs emerging creators, São Paulo takes free accessible programming across the city, and Paris turns streets and museums into a shared gallery. Real access means rethinking who is funded, where events happen and who feels invited.

000

Friday will bring a budget webinar catch up with Connor and the Institute of Hospitality, then Westminster licensing with Mark Williams. I’ll discuss a grassroots promoter network with Luke Richards, and later, meet Wambui Kinyua and Nairobi businesses to explore a night time economy group in Kenya.

Greens put rent rises in focus as party conferences continue. The UK discusses diesel reserves with European partners, while the RAF Fairford investigation grows. For nightlife, housing costs, fuel prices, safe venues and reliable late journeys all matter.

The SIA wants your views on proposed changes to licence-linked qualifications, including training content, English assessment and first aid. Respond by 23 October: www.gov.uk/government/c...

A resilient night needs more than venues. Ireland is funding later culture and creative work. Rome is joining nightlife districts with safer transport home. Singapore is embedding prevention inside clubs. Strong night time policy connects the programme, workforce, audience and journey.

Heaven has been recognised as an Asset of Community Value by Westminster City Council following the NTIA’s nomination. Michael Kill and Jeremy Joseph welcome this milestone for London’s LGBTQ+ community. We urge councils to recognise and protect LGBTQ+ venues. #Heaven #NTIA

After Liverpool, I’ll unpack nightlife with Freek and the Global Nightlife Movement, join the ATCM fireside chat and talk with Newcastle NE1 BID to support the sector. Later, I’ll discuss NTES2027 with the Home Office and NACTSO, then meet Philip Kolvin KC about new governance alongside Sacha Lord.

This Thursday, 10am–12pm, I’m joining HighStreetPositives’ Join the Dots webinar with voices from across retail, independent business, hospitality, property, heritage and town centres. We’ll explore investment, opportunities and challenges shaping our high streets. Join us: buff.ly/G7i8uON

Nightlife needs more than promotion. New South Wales is testing music friendly precincts, Montréal links later hours with safety and sound support, and Barcelona is strengthening safer routes home. The best policies do not choose between vibrancy and liveability. They design both together.

000

Today I will bring NTIA's voice to Manchester at the Australia British Infrastructure Catalyst panel on Northern growth, transport and the night time economy. I will catch up with Silvia Montello and Charli at VoiceBoX before a Specsavers, Deaf Rave and Listen For Life meeting with Robert Shepheard.

Labour promises a National Care Service, public control of energy and closer EU ties, while Kyiv faces heavier attacks and the RAF Fairford inquiry continues. For nightlife, energy costs, £2 bus fares and the October Budget are the big watchpoints.

The future of nightlife is bigger than clubs. Seoul is linking culture, markets and transport. New York is backing workforce skills, safety and local creativity. Glasgow is bringing the sector to the policy table. The real test: who can take part, get home safely and thrive after dark?

A packed NTIA day will bring Labour Party conference meetings and discussions alongside a team catch up, Global Nightlife Conference plans, We Group and Councillor Antoinette Fernandez. I will build towards the BOLT panel in Liverpool, with a WMCA conversation with Christian Sayer also on the diary!

Labour’s Liverpool conference turns to social care, pensions and energy costs today. Europe focuses on Ukraine and Middle East security. For pubs, clubs and venues, the key question is whether political promises will ease the cost of doing business.

Looking forward to joining the Australian British Infrastructure Catalyst 2026 to discuss The Northern Growth Strategy and the vital role the night-time economy can play in driving growth, investment and thriving communities across the North. #ABIC #NightTimeEconomy

Congratulations to Heaven on being listed as an Asset of Community Value. I’m proud the NTIA nominated a venue that has meant so much to London’s LGBTQ+ community and nightlife for generations. Thank you to Westminster City Council for recognising its lasting cultural value. Michael Kill, NTIA CEO

Cities are rethinking life after dark. Shanghai is testing flexible streets for outdoor dining. Vienna is building community led nightlife safety. Tamworth is creating entertainment zones where music and residents can coexist. Nightlife is becoming a laboratory for better cities.

Day two of Labour Conference. Burnham spoke of hope and hard choices yesterday. Today, all eyes are on Healey. With the Budget a month away, what will his promise of growth and investment mean for pubs, clubs, venues and the nighttime economy? Will ambition translate into real support?

🇨🇳 Shanghai is building a data-led night-time economy, using spending and footfall data to shape nightlife districts. “Night District Chiefs” coordinate development, while large entertainment venues are managed around safety, transport, noise and neighbourhood impact.

Westminster may be in recess, but politics certainly isn’t. Polls are fuelling election chatter, Labour is looking ahead, and economic pressures keep building. Add AI-written speeches to the mix and one thing is clear: the real story isn’t what politicians say next, but what they actually do.

🌍 What can nightlife learn from cities around the world? From mediation in New York and safer nightlife in Paris, to extended hours in Montréal and workforce training through NITE School. Different approaches. Shared challenges. Ideas worth exploring. What could work in your city? 🌙

Tomorrow starts with GB News on drinking in sight of the pitch, then conversations with Silvia Montello, BioBuds, LPC, Tony Bleetman, Teatro Hall, DCMS and IPSA. I’ll finish at the Truman Brewery celebrating 25 years of Skiddle. A day focused on representing and connecting our sector.

The UK economic outlook has improved, with the OECD forecasting 1.1% growth in 2026 and inflation of 3.1%. But global uncertainty, fiscal pressures and a weaker outlook for 2027 mean caution remains essential. Economic forecasts can change, and the challenges ahead remain significant.

Brilliant day in Dublin yesterday, catching up with everyone, sharing some great conversations and enjoying the city and its nightlife. Back to it today with more meetings and discussions. A great couple of days connecting, sharing ideas and building relationships.

MORE UP! 🇬🇧🇺🇸 Trump says UK-US relations are “more up” under Andy Burnham, but his attack on the Chagos deal has put the issue firmly back on Westminster’s agenda. Warm words in New York, tough questions back home — with Chagos and AI now firmly in focus.

PM Andy Burnham is in New York for UNGA, meeting Trump, Zelenskyy and von der Leyen, with Ukraine, the Middle East and AI high on the agenda. Back home, Ed Davey is pushing tougher AI oversight, while Martha’s Rule is being expanded to every A&E in England.

From London conversations on high streets, EURO 2028 and the future of our cities, to Dublin tonight for the Big Cities Conference with Ray O’Donoghue and colleagues from across the world. A 24 hour trip of learning, sharing and connecting. More lounges than sightseeing, but important nonetheless.

Westminster is quiet, but politics is not. The Lib Dems are in Brighton, with Ed Davey’s speech the key moment tomorrow. Then attention turns to Labour in Liverpool from Sunday. Conference season is under way, messages are being tested and the next political battle lines are taking shape.

The night-time economy is becoming serious economic policy. From Seoul and Ghana to Amsterdam, Lagos and Sydney, governments are connecting the night with jobs, tourism, transport, culture and growth. The shift is clear: from regulating the night to unlocking its potential.
