After Scalabrini's victory in the #ConCourt the astroturfers could hardly have left it alone. Problem is, it's in a city where they have no support. What happens when you have pogrom & nobody comes? That's what's happening right now. Far more media & human rights observers than would-be vigilantes!

For those in rich countries who think it's a "gotcha!" to say recycling is a hoax (ever since China stopped taking their waste), here you are: a whole movement of self-employed recyclers, mostly women. #SouthAfrica is full of recycled products, starting with the black bags we collect waste in.

"Atlantics (2019), French: Atlantique, invites viewers into a haunting & deeply
moving story set in, Dakar, Senegal. Following the lives of Ada & Souleiman, the film explores love, migration, unemployment, & class‘inequality through a unique blend of social realism & the supernatural. As you engage with.the film, consider how the Atlantic Ocean becomes more than a backdrop, symbolising hope, loss, transformation, & the consequences of eeonomic hardship. Through ghostly returns & enduring memories, director Mati Diop challenges audiences to reflect on the human cost of migration & the ways grief, justice, & resilience continue to shape lives across borders & generations."

Okay, P.S.A. incoming. If you (as I did) keep noticing fragmentary rants about Omarchy, here's the nutshell of it so you don't have to deep-dive. DHH is DAVID HEINEMEIER HANSSON, an ethnic-cleansing promoter. But almost worse, the vibe-coded scripts are about 5 Gb of "agentic A.I." !!
But none of this has cost DHH money —if anything, he's only gained. A few weeks ago, DHH announced the Omacom Foundation to bankroll his Linux distribution, Omarchy, which is nothing more than a few vibecoded scripts on top of Arch Linux. There are twelve "Founding Patrons" pledging a million dollars apiece:

* Tobi Liitke, CEO of Shopify

* Patrick Collison, CEO of Stripe

* Michael Dell, Chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies

* Jack Dorsey, Block Head and Chairman of Block

* Matthew Prince, CEO of Cloudflare

* Brendan Iribe, Cofounder of Sesame 7 and Oculus

* Jason Fried, CEO of 37signals

* Drew Houston, cofounder and co-CEO of Dropbox

* Peter Steinberger, creator of OpenClaw

* Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase

* Yunjie Dai, cofounder of TapTap

* DHH himself.

Screenshot of typed document headed: "Hundreds of migrants detained for 2 months in the Winelands"
Text continues: "Press statement from the W.Cape Coalition against Xenophobia (WCC-AX)

"This morning immigration officers in Robertson arrested Lovemore Maporarisa. Lovemore is a local leader of the Zimbabwean community who was trying to give assistance to some of the up to 200 people in the Winelands towns of Robertson, Montagu, Ashton, Bonnievale and McGregor who have been arrested and detained since June 30. They are mainly Zimbabweans but also include people from Mozambique, Malawi and Lesotho.

"Amongst them are many young women who are traumatised by what has happened to them. They are all being held in extremely overcrowded conditions. They also include people who are ill and need medication and hospital treatment.
Over this period, police have withheld critical information and documents. Supporters who have tried to take them basic materials such as sanitary towels, food and medication have been randomly refused, in between sporadic humanitarian assistance and recognition of rights.

"This is all being done on the pretext that these are undocumented people, despite the fact that many of them do in fact have documents and, as we know, the Department of Home Affairs has been making it impossible for people to get documented. In one case, a documented person was held until his visa expired and is now being deported on that basis. He will be forced to pay a fine for ‘overstaying’ in order to be able to return.

"It is hard to believe that there is not nefarious collusion at play between institutions and organisations when people are incarcerated through the actions of vigilantes, held by SAPS. People are being batted between immigration, police and the courts, all disclaiming responsibility. Meanwhile they apply the most onerous legislation they can lay their hands on to deny people the right to be brought before a magistrate within 48 hours as would ordinarily be the case. And they keep them in custody for as long as possible under immigration laws.
What kind of society have we become that we allow people to be detained for months in overcrowded conditions without proper recourse to the law? Is it any wonder that other African countries are up in arms about how South Africa is treating their citizens? It seems that the rule of law has completely broken down and the police and immigration are acting with impunity. This cannot be allowed to continue."
