You're legally not allowed to mention Black Narcissus without an image of Kathleen Byron in it. So...
Close-up of Kathleen Byron as Sister Ruth, hair wet and straggled across her face, with blood-shot, crazed eyes.

Bit on the nose from Mason - "...his aim is to frame this as 'the people versus the establishment' as one friend put it." That's what Farage himself said, so just whose friend is this? Also the "what his critics see as a self-serving stunt" is a pointed remark, when the rest is plainly opinion.
Chris Mason: "Nigel Farage - as so often in the last couple of years - has managed to upstage Sir Keir Starmer again, albeit via what his critics see as a self-serving stunt.
"Speaking to his allies this afternoon, his aim is to clearly frame this as 'the people versus the establishment' as one friend put it."

I literally came upon this a few weeks back, and got close to throwing it out, but then thought ... hmmmm ... do I have a 5¼" drive somewhere about...? That other one looks *very* modern(!) and not floppy at all.
An open floppy disk case with a number of 5¼ inch disks inside, with 'Elite' as the first disk shown.

Just cos ... the 1900s OS map shows there was an Abbey (and Priory before that) behind the houses so the land must be fairly stable - I'd think the subsidence be not that bad. Nice to see the old Cemetery is now a park ("they're here 👻")

I know it feels a little 'data careless' but I think it might be time to dump my BBC Micro backup files from September 85, and the 'Disk Utilities', along with Quest Paint. I mean, that's not *too* reckless is it?

I am staggered by just how many now watch GB News - OFCOM need to decide if it's a news channel (in which case it has to provide a balanced output) or entertainment (in which case it shouldn't be able to attend news events).
GB News Breakfast on weekdays averaged 103,000 viewers, with Sky News on 54,500 and the BBC News Channel on 29,700 (at a time when BBC One airs BBC Breakfast).

Fairly decent phishing attempt, in that it links to a genuine google domain, but I guess this will be a scam API with a reasonable looking screen. Google ought to do something about these...
Email with subject "Seamlessly pick up where you left off, with more room". It's a phishing scam but the link is to a googleapis domain.

The reporting on this is quite odd, as when you look at the details, altho still very poor, have all improved in the last year. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Monthly data on 12-hour waits is published by NHS England. In 2024, 10.5% of patients waited 12 hours or more at major A&E units from arrival to the point where they were treated and discharged or found a bed on a ward if they needed to be admitted. In 2025 it was 10.1%.
Waits are measured slightly differently elsewhere in the UK, but the other nations are all experiencing problems too.

Figures have also been published on the waiting list for planned hospital treatments, such as knee and hip operations.
At the end of November 7.31 million patients were on the waiting list - down from 7.4 million the month before - the lowest it has been since February 2023.
And NHS England has published an evaluation of its programme of support for areas with the highest rates of economic inactivity.
NHS trusts in the 20 areas with the worst joblessness have been given extra support with specialist teams of doctors and managers sent into to try to get the waiting list down.
Over the past year the waiting list has fallen by 4.2% - three times faster than elsewhere.

Nothing really sums up how the US is capitalism unfettered than this: "Yeah, we're blocking this, unless you pay for it" It's the complete absence of understanding of the issue, coupled with the sales pitch.

As we're posting Marvel. Chris Claremont in 1986. (sorry, about ALT text - too hard to transcribe)
Young woman giving eulogy for boy:
"WHO WAS HE THEN, THAT WE GATHER TO MOURN HIM?
WHO AM 1?
A FOUR-EYED, FLAT CHESTED. BRAT, CHICK, BRAIN, HEBE, STUCK-UP XAVIER'S SNOB FREAK!
DON'T LIKE THE WORDS?
I COULD USE NICER. I'VE HEARD WORSE. WHO HERE HASN'T? SO OFTEN, SO CASUALLY, THAT MAYBE WE'VE FORGOTTEN THE POWER THEY HAVE TO HURT.
NIGGER, SPIC, WOP, SLOPE, FAGGOT MUTIE THE LIST IS SO LONG. AND SO CRUEL.
THEY'RE LABELS. PUT. DOWNS.
AND THEY HURT.

BUT USUALLY WE LAUGH IT OFF OR HIT BACK-- WITH WORDS OF OUR OWN, OR FISTS OR WE SUFFER IN SILENCE. NO BIG DEAL THIS IS THE ROUGH EDGE OF REALITY, RIGHT? WHY MAKE A FUSS?
TROUBLE WAS, WHEN SOMEONE LABELED LARRY BODINE A"MUTIE" THEY HIT HOME BECAUSE HE WAS.

HIS POWER CREATED BEAUTY. THAT'S IT. HE DID WITH LIGHT AND COLOR WHAT MOZART DID WITH MUSIC. AND HE WANTED NOTHING MORE THAN TO BE ACCEPTED BY HIS PEERS, AND
POSSIBLY EVEN LIKED..
AND ISN'T THAT WHAT ANY OF US REALLY WANT? TO HAVE FRIENDS. PEOPLE TO CARE FOR US? NOT TO BE ALONE?
IF WE'RE LUCKY, WE HAVE SOMEONE TO TURN TO.

LARRY DIDN'T.
HE THOUGHT, IF PEOPLE KNEW THE TRUTH, THEY'D STOP SEEING HIM AND SEE ONLY THE LABEL, THE BRAND, HIS PERSONAL SCARLET LETTER."
SO HE HID THE TRUTH AND LIVED IN TERROR OF BEING DISCOVERED. HE EVEN JOINED IN WHEN OTHERS PUT MUTANTS DOWN.

WHAT MATTER THE COST TO HIS SOUL IF IT MADE HIS LIFE A LITTLE BETTER.
THAT'S THE TRAGEDY, THAT'S OUR SHAME.

THINK OF WHAT YOU SAY. IMAGINE IT BEING SAID ABOUT YOU. IT'S EASY TO MAKE FUN, REAL EASY TO BE CRUEL. TRY SOMETIME BEING ON THE RECEIVING END.
IF WE'RE TO LEARN ANYTHING FROM LARRY'S DEATH, IT SHOULD BE THIS...

YOU WANT TO KNOW WHO I AM?
I'M KATHERINE PRYDE.
THAT'S THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS.
THE REST ARE JUST LABELS."

Apparently "not looking at the ball" is a foul these days. Be fun seeing it ending 27-28 tomorrow in all the games, with these clear and obvious errors getting overturned.
