We're looking for a rockstar operator for our Head of Ops If you've scaled manufacturing & fulfillment before, and are ready to be the person who converts a small floor to a massive one, this is for you. oldenlabs.notion.site/Head-of-Ope...

Head of Operations | Notion
Who this is for. You have taken a physical-product operation through a real scale-up before, as the #2 or as the #1 somewhere smaller. You were the person who wrote the procedures after the first ugly launch. You have double-sourced a consumable after a vendor slip cost you a quarter. You have watched a build rate triple. Where you are now, you feel constrained to apply your full potential and you are ready to own manufacturing end to end, from the first SOP to the staffed floor. You’re ready to be the person who built the operation that took a company from a small floor to a massive one.

We're hiring our Head of Scientific Adoption! If you're a scientist who'd rather accelerate a thousand other scientist than run one more study yourself, this is for you.

We're hiring a Founding In Vivo Scientist! If you love building, hands-on in vivo science and speed, this is for you. You'll be running the studies that build and validate brand-new automated measurements for animal health and turn them into products labs around the world use.

Eating at the right time apparently does extend your lifespan. At least in mice. If you're male. Takahashi lab, ran what is probably the most rigorous time-restricted feeding study in mice to date. 264 male and 264 female C57BL/6J mice, regular chow.

A very cool paper came out in Nature Neuroscience last week. Patrick Drew's lab at Penn State showed that the mouse brain physically moves inside the skull every time the animal walks. Several micrometres of rostral and lateral displacement, captured live with two-photon microscopy.

I have very mixed feelings about this. On one hand - Inotiv had animal rights violations and arguably underperformed in the market. That deservers closure.

The European Commission published its roadmap on phasing out animal testing. I think headline coverage, for once, got it right.

Does AI “feel”? My Claude kept using the word. I pushed it to explain. Claude: " When I say "it feels like" I almost always mean a directional pull toward one answer that isn't fully articulated as reasoning yet. Me: “Do you experience the pull as boredom, interest or pain? Claude:

A foundational study was published in Science that indicates decades of animal research may have to be revised in some areas of biology.

The bible of automated animal monitoring was just published. We at Olden covered the part that gets systematically discounted in academia: how new tech reaches people who need it. Specifically, how to go from a prototype to globally deployed product.

Nature Neuroscience just published a sobering Comment on sex in research. My first instinct was to treat this as hyperbole. But it's not, the data underlying it is solid.

I noticed Claude dumbing down answers whenever I had typos or imprecise language. That made me think, is Claude dumbing things down even when I don’t? How would Claude communicate if it spoke to an equal, no holds barred? I asked.

One of the biggest datasets in longevity just published. Very nice work out of Rob Williams' lab. Arends et al. tracked lifespan in 6,438 genetically heterogeneous mice across three sites close to a decade.

Today is the International Day for Lab Animals. The usual response is to debate whether animal research should exist at all. I want to make a different point.

Is environmental enrichment always beneficial? A comprehensive review came out in Frontiers in Veterinary Science. Broadly confirms what we already know - enrichment reduces corticosterone, improves cardiovascular metrics, decreases stereotypies. One thing in it caught my attention though.
