Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 22/05/2025My main.go file is now nearly 2000 lines of code... things are getting serious here! I think as boring as it is, I need to split this out into smaller packages.... 000
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 21/05/2025Well that wasn’t expected. It started as a stride / speed session which would have been around 6km. Then we grabbed a PB with a bit more. 000
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 21/05/2025Thanks to @veeam I just got access to Linkedin Learning What are some of the good courses and content to get into? Anyone here got their own courses on that I should watch? 020
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 18/05/2025Had a great day out yesterday at the home of Rugby. My local team made it to their final and got to play there yesterday. Despite the final result they have ticked a box that not many get to do. Jealous and proud of the Stamford Town Rugby lads and whole club for showing up 000

Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 14/05/2025Current Status: Manually triggering my releases for Kollect. 010
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 14/05/2025With Kollect, do we add additional platforms? Or do we now concentrate on the depth of each one, which ones are missing from here that would be a good candidate for a cloud inventory tool (the kollect folder is the og and is for Kubernetes cluster inventory) 100
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 14/05/2025Busy evening here on my pet project, just a little Cloud Inventory tool that gathers your Kubernetes, AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and now Terraform state file (with some more work on the latter.) github.com/MichaelCade/... 021
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 13/05/2025New Post: My Thoughts on Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and the Power of Vector Databases vzilla.co.uk/vzilla-blog/... 000
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 06/05/2025I went to a car boot yesterday and decked out my crocs…. Never to be seen in actual public but fine for social media. Just need some more tech related charms. 000
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 15/04/2025Got into the home lab a little more this evening. This time focusing on KubeVirt and deployment via ArgoCD using the app of app methodology. Next up we need to clone some PVCs and create some VMs. 040
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 09/04/2025Thanks to Sidero Labs and Justin Garrison for this little home lab goodie... Perfect for accessing my Windows machine and was even able to mount on my desk 000
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 07/04/2025I feel like a laggard here, having only just found dark mode on Linkedin 000
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 01/04/2025Next session at Data On Kubernetes from the guys at Percona. Postgres has the Jack of all trades with extensions. I have recently been diving into PGvector 050
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 01/04/2025Interested in hearing about Kafka and Strimzi. Never touched Strimzi, seems like an operator? #KubeCon 000
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 01/04/2025Kicking off my day hearing about CrunchyData operator #KubeCon 030
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 31/03/2025Not a great start to the day with the backup NAS in the home lab. I just added 2 x 4TB drives in this as well. 000
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 31/03/2025Pre tinkering in the home lab complete... now going to get going down to London Town for #KubeCon 040
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 25/02/2025Sometimes #!/bin/bash is all you need to get a simple job done Download a load of Operating System ISOs into my vSphere content library... 140
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 24/02/2025I am using Heimdall as my #Homelab dashboard, are you using something different? 210
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 23/02/2025Homelab update: 6/6 drives to complete the NAS upgrade it’s not the overwhelming TBs you see from some in their homelab but for me this is VM based storage only. RAID5 = 5TB useable will be plenty. Now to move everything back from the backup NAS and build some more. 150
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 22/02/2025What else should I add to the home lab services? 020
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 27/01/2025As the world is all in on SaaS, I was recommended a book and this was the first one of 2025 010
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 23/01/2025I just upgraded my home lab Veeam server to 12.3, A nice message telling me you can now protect Entra ID with it... 120
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 22/01/2025Thinking about a video, showing the portability and ability of Veeam being able to protect and restore your VMs between different hypervisors and cloud based IaaS offerings... Where should I restore this VM > edit and move on > 020
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 20/01/2025Do you ever look at a cluster and go... I don't remember deploying some of this stuff 330
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 05/01/2025A productive bit of time spent de cluttering and organising my @YouTube Watch Later playlist, Now instead of having one overwhelming long watch later playlist I have several more pointed playlists to get after. 130
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 05/01/2025Started a crazy journey to sort my @YouTube Watch Later list out, APIs are non existent it seems for the "Watch Later" playlist. We had to get creative, Java in the dev tools console of chrome > extract to .json and then wrote some Go code to categorise and create new playlists with those videos 020
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 04/01/2025Well so much for creating a little tool to help better sort the 300+ watch later videos on YouTube... Looks like the API call is just not there... 010
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 02/01/2025Another fantastic email to open this morning was that was recognised on the OpenUK's 5th annual New Year’s Honours list buff.ly/40f8vwr 010
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 09/12/2024Tearing down the demo environment from last week... Snapshots = not a backup, but a great fast recovery point 120
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 01/12/2024Finished the demos, time to delete the resources with that simple terraform destroy command. Still my absolute go to IaC tool is HashiCorp Terraform for all infrastructure and cloud provisioning. 140
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 28/11/2024I made the decision to test out restoring from a backup of a "Mission-Critical" app server on VMware vSphere to Proxmox.. in the home lab.. It worked.. 020
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 22/11/2024We are cooking, now we need to some talking head and voiceover work on these... 000
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 20/11/2024Spotted in the wild a Veeam Kasten data mover pod just wrapping up a process and scurrying back into its hide out after moving some data from A to B. 040
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 20/11/2024Hey, I am running 5 x Dell Optiplex 7060s, spec in image below as well as ESXi version 8.0. Virtual Center lives as a VM on this cluster. The old NETGEAR ReadyNAS 716 Unit is providing 2-3TB of VMFS over iSCSI and NFS shared storage. (likely the next investment to upgrade/change) Anything else? 110
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 20/11/2024Getting into the lab this evening... upgrading the talos Kubernetes cluster I have and trying to document the process like I would have back in the vSphere days... 140
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 20/11/2024The --dry-run command means I can play it out without committing... having to make a few jumps here to get into the 1.30 release range I think talosctl --nodes 192.168.169.211 --endpoints 192.168.169.211 --talosconfig=talosconfig upgrade-k8s --to 1.28.6 --dry-run 110
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 20/11/2024That went quite smoothly... Now for the Kubernetes version update... I cannot just go from 1.27.7 to 1.30.3 so have to work out that path. 130
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 20/11/2024Upgrading my bare metal home lab @siderolabs.com talos cluster from an ancient 1.27.7 to something a little newer... I wonder what I can break in the process. 150
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 14/11/2024Little project plug. Kollect. The cloud inventory tool. 050
Michael Cade @michaelcade.bsky.social · 12/11/2024The journey to start with NixOS... I seem to be constantly adding new apps and configuration and then rebuilding 230
