So, I've decided to rock my photography, like it's 1989. I've created a new account on Flickr (if one can believe it!), and you can find me here: www.flickr.com/photos/monoc... Would love to connect on there.

I've started going back through my archives and came across this one I had forgotten I'd taken. It's definitely not the kind of thing I shoot now, but I loved the sense of experimentation. I think this is going into a new folder called "Photos I don't remember taking but actually really like".

I’ve been away a while. So, I’m into black and white landscapes. Who should I be following?

And whilst I'm at it, here's 4 of my favourite tree photos, from back along. I guess I'm re-introducing myself to people. Hi!

So, what's happened in the 6 months or so since I dropped off the edge of Bluesky? • I got a bit of my life back • I started writing on Substack • I joined Foto and have been posting a few images there • I printed and am selling a second run of my book 'The Dark Wood'. • I stopped using Vero

I'm not going to blow own trumpet or anything, but this image gave me a 'highly commended' in LPOTY a few years ago. It's the only time I've entered, and only did it so I could say I had. Sometimes you just have to follow your gut. #BlackAndWhite #Monochrome #LandscapePhotography #Fog #Landscape
This is a black and white image of a foggy urban scene. It has been taken on a local playing field. In the background, there is a line of trees, masked out by the fog. In the foreground there is a table tennis table. There's an uneasy feeling about this scene, because it feels like the table should be used, but it's left empty in an atmospheric scene.

Finally finished (again) the watch-through of Netflix's 'Dark', and this track just hits perfect this evening with my headphones on. It takes me back to 'THAT moment' in Dark towards the end. Just so so so good. @netflix.com - You better not ever remove it! music.apple.com/gb/album/my-...

I took this image around 6 or 7 years ago, as part of my first long-form project 'The Downs'. I was shooting the same location over all season, and the first thing I learned, is that the low-hanging fruit in a project goes pretty darned quickly. #BlackAndWhite #Photography #SelfPortrait #Monochrome

@fotoapp.co Hey there, I'm fairly new to owning an iPhone, and definitely new to Foto. Can you tell me, is saving an image to your phone (Photos app) the only way to get an image into your app? I can't even see a way of pulling an image in from an iCloud folder. Is this right? #foto

I think I must have been about 17 or 18, and I spent most of the weekends around that time at the ‘Sir Colin Campbell’ pub, in Coventry.

Woodland, for me, is an altogether different world when the fog rolls in. It's deeps and mysterious and enchanting. I see the same place through different eyes. Like looking at a landscape for the first time. #Photography #BlackAndWhite #Monochrome #LandscapePhotography #Woodland #Fog
This is a black and white image of a foggy woodland scene. In the background you can see a bright light, masking out the distant trees. In the foreground you can see a number of long, thin trees in different shapes and angles.

I still remember taking this photo, notably for the weather that we were facing when we arrived. It was New Year’s Day 2022 and, by the time we arrived, was absolutely throwing it down. But once you're wet you're wet. #Photography #LandscapePhotography #BlackAndWhite #Monochrome #CoastalPhotography

I know I've shot and posted this scene 100s of times in the past, but I just can't get over it. You could be forgiven for thinking that all I do is wait for foggy weather, then head up onto the hill. But I just love this view so much. #Photography #BlackAndWhite #Monochrome #LandscapePhotography
This is a black and white image of the famous 'Gold Hill' in Shaftesbury, Dorset. It is a steep, cobbled hill, lined with cottages on the left, and a strong defensive wall on the right. Alongside the wall there is a small, black railing. Fog hangs heavy throughout the scene, masking out any details in the distance. It is atmospheric and holds a 'classic' view about it.

Over the course of my 20+ years shooting, I would say that there are, maybe, 10 that I think are really good images - and I don’t use that term lightly. I think this is one of them. #BlackAndWhite #Monochrome #Documentary #StreetPhotography #Reportage #Photography
This is a black and white taken in a street. The scene in ambiguous. There are 3 main characters, all dressed fully in white gowns and hoods. There are eye holes cut out of the hoods, so that the people can see. To their ankles are tied lengths of heavy chains. One person is looking directly ahead. One person is looking to the camera, and one person is looking up and to the right.

The scene is unnerving, and poses questions to the casual viewer.

Another image from the 3 days of glorious fog we had at the beginning of the year. Hoping for a little more before the spring kicks in. #Photography #BlackAndWhite #Monochrome #LandscapePhotography #Trees #Fog
This is a black and white image of a foggy woodland scene. There are trees all around, with fog hanging in the background of the scene. In the foreground, there are some areas of interest. On the right of the scene, there are two thin trees, which have fallen over and form a cross. In the background, there are two thin trees, reaching up towards the light.

I can still remember this day. It was cold, silent and utterly beautiful. This is not a location I had set out for. I was visiting a woodland on the other side of the road and yet, I found this new discovery. #BlackAndWhite #Photography #Monochrome #LandscapePhotography #Woodland #Fog
This is a black and white image of a foggy woodland scene. To the left and right, you can see trees, covered by the fog. In the centre is a small grassy track, leading to a stile.

Dark and brooding woodlands are, strangely, my happy place. I love them. The creaking of the trunks, the wind whispering it's secrets amongst the leaves. Haunting, and lovely. #Photography #BlackAndWhite #Monochrome #LandscapePhotography #Trees #Woodland
This is a black and white image of a woodland scene in the fog. In the distance, on the right, you can see a small copse of trees next to a dark, winding path. On the left, there are smaller, thinner confusions of branches and leaves, but light is breaking through.

In the foreground, there is a single tree trunk, gnarled and textured.

This is a black and white image of a football field in foggy weather. In the background, you can see a set of rugby posts. And in the foreground, you can see a muddy field, with a large puddle, iced over. There are tracks leading from the puddle, into the field towards the rugby posts.

One of my happy places in life is Dartmoor. There’s just something about the stillness, which is intoxicating and addictive. There is nothing to be heard, apart from the wind blowing across the landscape, and the birdsong overhead. #Photography #BlackAndWhite #Monochrome #LandscapePhotography
This is black and white image of a rural location in Dartmoor, in the south of the UK. In the distance you can see the light catching the tops of the hills, and on the right the low-lying fog drifting along the landscape. In the foreground is mostly wild grass, with bodies of water punctuated here and there.

Gold Hill is well known after a 1970s television advert for bread, directed by Ridley Scott. I’ve shot it countless times. What’s sad to me, is that people stop there and don't venture to the right with a minute's walk. #Photography #BlackAndWhite #Monochrome #Fog #Landscape #Moody
This is a black and white image of a foggy scene. You can see old, brick buildings to the right. You can see benches and hedges to the left, and trees in the distance, being masked slightly by the fog. In the centre there is a single figure emerging from the fog.

Jubilee Fire Beacon. - Wiltshire
This is a black and white image of a fire beacon, sitting on top of a hill in the Wiltshire countryside. It is surrounded by rocks at the base, to keep it stable, and you can see countryside all around. There are brooding clouds above, giving an altogether cold feeling.

This is a black and white image of a weird looking tree in the fog. There is very limited visibility in the background, but there is some gorgeous light coming in from the right and casting a gentle shadow on the ground. The tree has seen better days!
