The third single from The Seasons is out on 16 October — A Clearer Light, performed by the glorious @connaughtbrass It's the first movement of Summer in London, 1914, and the first music you hear on the album, written after Alice Meynell’s poem “Summer in England, 1914”.

The Flowers Left Thick, the first single from The Seasons (1914–18), is out on 4 September. Each of the Seasons was recorded in a different church, chosen for its history and acoustics.

All the artwork for The Seasons is by Oli Bentley of Split Design, based at Salts Works, Shipley.

Oli is a letterpress and traditional print master. These designs began digitally, were made into a ‘forme’ and hand-printed, then scanned to become what you see here.

My new album, The Seasons (1914-18), has a release date - Nov 6th, for Remembrance Sunday, with 3 singles starting Sep 4.

Here’s a pic with the lovely @thegesualdosix.bsky.social gang, back in Nov 2025, at the first recording in a freezing St Michael’s Church, Highgate. Wintery it was.

When we were kids, our Mum & Dad saved up to give me and my brother the best musical instruments they could afford. I’ll always be grateful for that. And now they’re gone, I hope they’d approve of this new forever addition to our family home. 💙🎹 @steinwayandsons.bsky.social

Musical memories seem to go into a similar deep part of the brain as smells. They’re often some of the last to fade when we age, and that striking sense of being transported when you catch a song fragment … feels like one of core elements of being human. What’s your earliest musical memory? 💙🎹

I heard the trailer for @hannahpeel.bsky.social ‘s new Radio 3 show, brass banding, and it took me right back - Batley Grammar School band, then the Yorkshire Post, then the Albert Hall! Amazing music making, rooted in the community, and open to all. Long live the brass band. 🎺💙🎹

Much of the debate around AI 'art' surely misses the point that art is as much about the practice and making, as it is about the outcome. Typing a prompt and clicking on an image or track is the thinnest, most meagre experience of making art or music I could possibly imagine. 🎹💙

Book tip: Jeremy Eichler's Time's Echo draws a series of original, compelling connections between composers in the run-up to WW2 + puts their music in context in a way I'd not read before. It's sent me back to listen to the music with fresh ears too, which is always telling. 💙🎹 amzn.eu/d/erDnhwY

I’ve written a lot of music for TV over the last 6 months, and while I’ll never not be grateful to accompany such wonderful shows as Unforgotten and Sister Boniface, it’s always a good feeling when the musical pendulum swings back to my own projects.

Roots are important, and family stories. The sense of being part of a longer line seems to mean as much to our kids as to me. Spending time back in Yorkshire and pointing out the house my Grandad built, high on a hillside to watch the weather rumble down the valley, grounds us all. 💙🎹

Went to a performance tonight of the St John Passion, with the High Wycombe Choral Society & Sinfonia, which was dedicated to an old Uni friend who sadly recently died. Don't think I've ever experienced the interplay of the divine soloists & the chorus of the people in quite the same way before.
