Meet our October faculty spotlight! Dr. Elizabeth Wardle is a Roger and Joyce Howe Distinguished Professor of Written Communication, the Director of Howe Center for Writing Excellence, and the author of several books across her career. Read the full interview at the link in our bio.
Image of Dr. Elizabeth Wardle, a Roger and Joyce Howe Distinguished Professor of Written Communication and the Director of Howe Center for Writing Excellence
Text says that Dr Wardle received a PHD in Rhetoric and Professional Communication from Iowa State University, directed writing programs at the University of Dayton and the University of Central Florida, published seven books about writing, including a textbook used in over 400 schools nationwide, and was named a Miami University Distinguished Professor last year.Dr. Wardle answers the question Why Miami? with The commitment to students is exceptional. I always notice the imaginative programming that Patrick Murphy and Michele Navakas create for students. And I’ve been impressed with the many events my creative writing colleagues host.
She answers Why English? with I was a philosophy major and found my way later into an English graduate program. What I fell in love with was teaching writing as a TA. That solidified my path in composition and rhetoric.
Image of Wardle's newest book. Text says Dr. Wardle’s newest book, Writing Rediscovered, seeks to “help people rethink their relationship with writing, examine their misconceptions, and embrace a healthier attitude toward themselves as writers.” She accomplishes this by sharing the knowledge of rhetoric scholars in an accessible, conversational way. “For that reason, it was fun to write,” Wardle says.
