Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 11/09/2026The eyes are tiny 1mm flush set synthetic pink sapphires - first time I've ever done flush setting, so of course I picked hard mode 😂 001
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 11/09/2026Here are my finished "rats in hammocks" earrings. Pet rats love hanging out in hammocks, and these are no exception! 2223
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 14/05/2026Took this little wax earring carving of a rat in a hammock to the caster today 🐀 Launching the business soon and so far half my designs are rat-based 😅 3103
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 08/03/2026To be fair I did complete a series of skiing lessons on Edinburgh's Hillend dry ski slope when I was a kid, but I was still surprised that muscle memory from a sky ski slope transfers so well to snow a quarter century later! 000
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 08/03/2026Started skiing with my GF this year and yesterday (my 6th time ever skiing on snow) we reached the top of a lift only to find out that the blue/intermediate route down was closed for grooming. So... I did my first black diamond 😱 140
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 08/03/2026Today is the ten year anniversary of my public coming out and I still have only two regrets - not doing it sooner, and not using this gif for the announcementmedia.tenor.coma woman is smiling with the words i am no man above herAlt: Eowyn removing her helmet, with the subtitle "I am no man" 1120
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 09/02/2026Veggie lasagna! I vary the recipe, but usually something on the lines of a spicy tomato sauce with roasted red and yellow peppers, smoked paprika, and chipotle; a cheesy bechamel; and layer in thinly sliced zucchini, eggplant and summer squash as well as fresh pasta 010

Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 27/01/2026Love the design, can't wait to see what it looks like when you're finished! 010
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 27/01/2026The Celtic knot was chased entirely from the front, while the fleur-de-lys was lined from the front, then flipped over and repoussed (pushed out from the back with embossing tools), and finally flipped back and chased to add detail and refine the forms 010
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 27/01/2026These are in 18 gauge copper sheet (about 1mm thick), formed entirely by hammering metal punches against it, an ancient and slow process that takes several days of hard work 120

Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 26/11/2025Hah I have definitely been considering some variants including a pizza version 😂 020
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 26/11/2025Still working on some details (and getting a store set up etc) but here's a preview of my first production jewelry piece 🐀🧀 3163
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 26/11/2025Yes! I have taken an online class with him and really enjoyed it, would love to take more 010
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 26/10/2025Sooooo my girlfriend hasn't seen the Matrix, but I showed her Bound first, and I'm honestly envious she gets to see them in that order 040

Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 11/10/2025Guaranteed to be cryptographically strong, much harder to steal (never leaves your device, can be kept in secure storage), phishing resistant (only the actual site that issued it can use it), inherently proves you are using a known device so no need for extra MFA 050
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 10/10/2025I'm bemused by the difference between "jewellery" in the UK and "jewelry" in the US. I grew up in the schwa-heavy soup of the UK but learned jewelry skills in the US, and "jewelry" makes far more sense to me 030
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 10/10/2025I'm currently sitting in the bar and feeling an intense sense of loss. My idea is somewhere here and it's hard to leave until I recapture it. 120
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 10/10/2025I went into a bar, and something triggered an idea for a jewelry design that was important enough that I opened my notes app to record it. In my notes I found a half written idea, and was compelled to complete it. After that, my original idea had vanished #adhd 130
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 07/10/2025Beginning to mentally reframe myself as a "designer / maker". My short term goal is making jewelry as art and maybe a business, but I love dabbling in all sorts of disciplines and love making tools, and don't want to leave software entirely, so it's difficult to define exactly what I do... 020
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 07/10/2025Although I was only peripherally aware of them before I transitioned, I later met them over dinner on Train Jam and discovered they were awesome and delightful people, and I'm honored to have met them 030
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 01/10/2025I hand-carved a sleeping rat dreaming of cheese in wax, so I can cast it in silver bsky.app/profile/mhut... 030
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 01/10/2025I sometimes use similar phrases when I'm giving a talk, or in long form writing. I feel like that's very different than using it in a response, as it's not intended as a callout - it's an explicit callback to remind or draw attention to connections between different parts of the work 030
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 01/10/2025I think there's a place for it as a call-out in a response when someone repeatedly and clearly hasn't cared to pay due attention, and in that context it's absolutely a passive-aggressive move and an escalation 130
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 28/09/2025I have wondered about ways to use my metalsmithing skills to make things other than jewelry... and @lackingceremony.bsky.social's keynote at @qgcon.bsky.social now has me thinking about making metal artifacts for TTRPGs and how they might contribute to gameplay 🤔 192

Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 17/09/2025Honorary mention to that bit at the end of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Feel like a gameplay gimmick (and probably wouldn't work as well if it's not a surprise) but super effective regardless - this one made me cry too 110
Mikayla H @mhut.ch · 17/09/2025Guild Wars 2 episode killed a side character I liked for no good reason. I was a little upset, but fine. The next story episode made players switch perspective *for the first time ever* and play as the NPC who murdered her, and act it out ourselves. I was genuinely distraught and angry. 140
