mystery solved: they seem to have been cleaning out folks from their system who they had reimbursed for the sagan summer workshop (which I didn't realize was routed through jpl)

I received an email this morning letting me know that I've been let go from NASA JPL and need to turn in my badge and parking pass. Which is interesting, since I am not and have never been employed by NASA JPL..........

An Intermediate-mass Black Hole Lurking in A Galactic Halo Caught Alive during Outburst
Stellar-mass and supermassive black holes abound in the Universe, whereas intermediate-mass black holes (IMBHs) of ~10^2-10^5 solar masses in between are largely missing observationally, with few case...

This Hubble image of a microlensing event, OGLE-2013-BLG-0341, shows how astronomers can use Hubble to distinguish lensing objects from background stars, allowing them to interpret future events that will be seen by #NASARoman: news.stsci.edu/42TpwwF
A field of stars that are a mix of blue, white, and orange. A small region between the center and the right is outlined with a square box. Above it is a pullout of the outlined region, labeled “OGLE-2013-BLG-0341.” The pullout shows two fuzzy red orbs that are very close together, each of which are stars. One of the stars is labeled “lens,” while the other is labeled “background star.”

Even assuming an LLM stumbled into a revolutionary scientific discovery, it would only be an untested hypothesis. A lack of hypotheses is not science's problem - it's $$ for the research to test those hypotheses that's sorely needed. And, that's being cut to fund LLMs.

It's been a long time coming... the paper I led on GRB 221009A was recently accepted for publication by ApJ ! : ) Check out this poster I made for the project for the upcoming 'Celebrating 20 Years of Swift Discoveries' Conference !! 🧪🔭☄️ #highenergyastro #womeninSTEM
A scientific conference poster with the title 'Late-time (t ~ 330 d) HST and JWST Observations of GRB 221009A.' The background is pink and orange and is reminiscent of the fabric clouds used by the dancers at the opening of Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour. There are 3 figures on the poster. The first is a set of colored images showing the field of the GRB. The second is a SED of the data showing a blue upturn. The third is a light curve showing a break at 50 days. At the bottom is a summary statement saying "GRB 221009A shows an optical/NIT temporal break at 50 d and evidence for an additional blue component, maybe a star cluster or a light echo !" See the paper for more information on all figures and conclusions.
