I thought the article explained it pretty well. Was there a part that was particularly confusing? I’d be happy to make it more clear. This being said the answer is neither.

At the risk of sounding like a #herzner shill, working with #ovhcloud really makes me appreciate them. With OVH had to apply to get a server using my govID. (Fine ok) Then when I was approved for one month. I had to apply for the ability to automatically pay each month. How is OVH alive?l

That and configuration norms really affect quality of life. Do I really need to edit fpm ini files to change app settings and the like? 😤

Am I the only person who judges applications to do #SelfHosting with by what language they are written in? #rust and #GoLang give me faith that the app will be performant and simple to manage. JS, TS, PHP/fpm, and Ruby make me think twice. There are great apps in these langs but I get nervous.

Even more basic than that. It was just a 100% matte black surface. The change I made was to just add appropriate Bevy ECS components such that the surface did not interact with light or shadows.

Huge congratulations to the #bevy team with their #bsn implementstion. It’s a huge quality of life change for bevy #GameDev / #IndieGameDev In my settings panel alone switching to composed bsn! Resulted in 3000 line of code reduction. I’m excited to be able to move bsn into files eventually.

Mostly about compile times but in a larger sense it was about developer quality of life. Having 75k lines of code in one crate made dev builds take 45s even if all I did was change one const. I know larger projects take the same workspace route that I did. Take a look at how bevy works. :)

Tip for #IndieGameDev / #GameDev working on LARGE games in #bevy Focus harder on plugin isolation. I am breaking my game into workspace crates and the “exceptions” I made are painful. If I knew I would have to break things out into crates I would not have treated isolation as an academic nicety.

I’m a big fan of the hidden tutorial. Where the player doesn’t even know they’re in the tutorial. Silksong does this very well. And given that the player doesn’t know they are in the tutorial they can “lose”. I think the key point is that the cost of the loss has to be nothing or very low.

Caitlin @mholiv.bsky.social · 19/11/2025
In my experience it is very important to keep up to date in the world of bevy. Every 0.x release they put out a migration guide that I work my way through. For smaller 0.17.x style releases I just apply to update and run my tests. Never had an issue. Where I have had an issue is abandoned plugins.😭
