Over 80% of this shift comes from already active users changing how they frame immigration. Changes in who participate contribute to forum-level shifts to a lesser extent, however, more so when attacks happen closer to home.

Using 7.5 million posts from Sweden’s largest discussion forum, we find that jihadist terrorist attacks spill over to non-event related discussions about migration. They shift framing about immigration in general discussions from being centered on economic issues to issues of culture and security.
