another update about my mental health. once again: i am posting this in the hopes that it de-stigmatizes MH and helps anyone out there who needs help but has been afraid or ashamed to get it. #mentalhealth

a note that says: hello all!
i am still in the process of changing medications (from an SSRI to an
SMS) and i have to say: it absolutely sucks. withdrawal symptoms from one med combined with onboarding symptoms from the new med is a real brain roller coaster - nothing unexpected or dangerous, but it is a miserable experience.
i have been able to get into the studio a little bit here and there which is good, but once again among the biggest stressors of this whole process is the difficulty i have in accessing my creativity and ability to focus. i keep having brief flashes of ideas and directions, but accessing them more than superficially is proving very elusive, which is very frustrating.
the good news is that i have people around me who care and are supportive — and i think that is why i continue to post about this process on here: hiding mental health issues makes them so much more difficult to deal with. if you are dealing with similar stuff, i implore you to let your friends and family know what is going on — it helps. a lot. thank you all as always for your support!

toxic #design school mythologies: grades are all that matter. just do what the teacher tells you. every project should be a portfolio piece. non-major classes are a waste of time. visiting guest lectures are optional. history classes are useless. do it just like famous designer x did it. 2/2

1. it elevated me far, far, far past where i could have gotten on my own or via free stuff online. it gave me a motivated community of like-minded people. it gave me creative, intellectual, and social stimulation. it gave me a career. 2. it was worth 100x what i paid. it changed my life entirely.

students: if you had a tough semester, failed a class, had to pause enrollment, or are feeling bad about your college experience, just a reminder: it took me 16 years to get my BFA. there is absolutely no “correct” way to do this, there is only your way. just keep being who you are. #art #design
