I sat down with Cavan Sullivan, Neil Pierre and Frankie Westfield - all together - at their first senior #USMNT camp. "Every moment is sort of like a pinch-me moment," Sullivan said. Now comes "the biggest game of our lives," their first U.S.-Mexico showcase: www.inquirer.com/soccer/cavan...

Cavan Sullivan, Neil Pierre, and Frankie Westfield savor ‘a pinch-me moment’ with their USMNT debuts

The trio of Union players sat down together for a joint interview with The Inquirer ahead of what Sullivan called ‘the biggest game of our lives’: their first showdown with rival Mexico.

Would you look at that? The 22yo right back phenom starts, scores and we are up 3-0. It’s like if playing the younger, more athletic and clearly better players somehow works 🤷‍♂️

Yes sir. Shout-out to mine this morning, Delta at La Guardia. I couldn’t believe how smooth they made it (I was expecting to die, so that helped) People even clapped 👏🏼

Mbekezeli Mbokazi… holy smokes man. He was supposed to only play 45. Then extra 5-10 because he was feeling good. He played 80 as good or better as any CB has played this season in MLS. He was supposed to be out the rest of the season. He came back to training 4 days before the game. Machine 🤖

Gilberto Mora vs Cavan Sullivan is going to be fun for the next 15+ years. I know… control the hype… let the kids develop… Sorry but no. Both are very real and generational. Different players though. Which makes them unique to each other and that’s extra exciting.

Can I use a FIFA one-time switch from Italy to anything not apocalyptic embarrassing painful disaster? Is Curaçao recruiting? I’ll take anything at this point.

Why play a 22yo starting right back phenom from the 4th best team in the Premier League when you can still play Di Lorenzo? Am I right? Cheers to another missed World Cup in 2030 🍷🇮🇹

Most of the discourse I read about Noahkai Banks & the USMNT makes me sad (on the other place). I know people want all or nothing, but give kids a break. It’s a massive life decision. You guys don’t remember now when Berhalter gave Dest a full window off for him to think about his decision?

Niko Tsakiris wasn't supposed to make it out of the womb alive; the cancer that nearly killed his father was also expected to prey on him in utero. What followed was a remarkable life in soccer, even tho he's still just 21. My profile of the best young 10 in MLS: www.mlssoccer.com/news/niko-ts...

Niko Tsakiris grows into starring role for San Jose Earthquakes | MLSSoccer.com

The term ‘statement game’ is probably overused in sports these days. It was nevertheless quite difficult to avoid the phrase after Niko Tsakiris tore San Diego FC apart in last week’s 3-2 road win for...

Philadelphia Union then: - Started the season with 6 straight losses. - Just ONE win in the first 15 weeks (Carnell fired). Philadelphia Union now: - 10 straight games without a loss (8 wins). - 33 points, in the playoffs, 7th place in the East. Ryan Richter miracle

Leagues Cup Final 2026 ✅ Demanding long month but couldn’t be happier with another great experience. I have the best job in the world & the best teammates that you can ask for. Grateful for the trust of everyone in MLS for challenging & encouraging me to push myself in both languages 🇺🇸🇪🇸

Unless he has a clone that he left here in NY, that is correct, he is not in KC.

Just ran into Nico Fernández Mercau outside Sports Illustrated Stadium after Toluca v Austin. He was there to support one of his best friends, Nico Castro (Toluca #8). Great chat and stories that hopefully I can share during a broadcast in the future.

Spoke to Josh Sargent post game last night. He was exceptionally candid: “I think a lot of things haven’t been going my way. I haven’t played at the best of my abilities, you know? But I’m very confident at myself at the same time & hopefully now that I scored this goal they can keep coming”

On the broadcast for Cruz Azul v NYC tonight, had the opportunity to speak pregame with people in and around Cruz Azul and without me even saying anything, they brought up someone: “Cavan Sullivan… holy smokes. What a player” “Cavan drove Erik (Lira) crazy all game” Some of the comments.

I did Miami tonight. No Suarez and Berterame the whole tournament, no Allende, no Silvetti. Literally no strikers. Every chance to let it go. No chance. Everyone pre/post game, they were we have to win everything we play always forever. Playing a few extra games after six weeks off it’s fine.

Michele Giannone @mgiannone.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

Why not? It’s a tittle. It’s a great chance to win something, I don’t see LAFC, Miami, etc. throwing the towel without even starting. I understand what you are saying but I will never agree with it.

Michele Giannone @mgiannone.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

Extremely disappointed in teams like Nashville that simply gave Leagues Cup away already. At least go for it on the first game and if it doesn’t work out then rotate last 2. It’s a title. Come on.

Michele Giannone @mgiannone.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

Just spoke with Germán Berterame pregame and says that his recovery is going great & faster than expected. I mentioned that Leagues Cup final is in a month (September 6th) and if he thinks he would be ready by then. “I’ll be back before then for sure” #InterMiami

Asked Carles Gil if he is playing better right now in 2026 than when he won the MVP in 2021. “Could be, could be” he said. (I believe he is)

Nashville’s Brian Schwake with the perfect fluent Spanish post All-Star Game interview! Is there anything this guy doesn’t do well?

Michele Giannone @mgiannone.bsky.social · 30/07/2026

I know I’m saying something completely obvious but Carles Gil is outrageous. What a player. Soccer poetry. I think he’s playing better this year than when he won MVP in 2021.

Threw this idea last night on the broadcast. Just an idea. This is a safe space. Galaxy… 100 miles south… unhappy (very motivated?) player. Make it happen.
