When insurers exit Medicare Advantage, it’s because: 1. Congress isn't paying enough 2. To finance the coverage level Congress demands 3. For the enrollees the insurer attracts, and 4. Enrollees can’t apply their subsidy to a less costly plan. www.nytimes.com/2026...

Private equity isn't the problem. Bad incentives are. PE, doctors, and hospitals--whether for-profit or nonprofit--all act in their financial self-interest. The results are ugly because "customer second" government incentives displaced "customer first" market incentives. www.sensible-med.com...

I'm struck by how people keep making arguments against AI that are also arguments against, e.g., hiring a plumber or paying a mechanic to fix your car or using GPS to navigate across town.

“Fight against political control of NIH grants intensifies” Politics has *always* controlled NIH grants. The only way to “fight political control” is to abolish the NIH. Trump isn’t inserting politics. He’s using the power NIH advocates gave him to substitute his for theirs.

Trump should demand that Congress codify his 2018 rule. If Congress won’t act, the administration should reissue that 2018 rule.

One way to boost production of nonexcludable goods is to bar competitors. When government uses patents to bar competitors without their consent, we say that's good. When firms use noncompete clauses to pay consenting employees not to compete, we say that's bad.
