Breaking: Co-May (#Emong) now a typhoon - JTWC. The current intensity based on 1 minute has surpass the threshold of 65 knots and now Co-May holds a maximum sustained winds of 70 knots (80 mph) or 130 km/h. The center was last spotted 245 km W of Bacnotan, La Union as 8 am from the DOST-PAGASA.

The JMA upgraded the unnamed tropical depression far east of extreme northern Luzon into a tropical storm, Francisco, at 00:00 UTC. This is the fourth named storm of the 2025 season in the NW Pacific, and it's forecast to head over the Yaeyama Islands.

Tropical storm "Wipha" is passing just north of Laoag, Ilocos Norte, over the sea of the Luzon Strait. The storm has slightly intensified and is now holding maximum sustained winds of 45 kts (85 km/h). Tropical cyclone wind signals #2 and #1 remains over parts of northern and extreme northern Luzon

The tropical depression over the Philippine Sea east of Luzon, which is locally known as TD "Crising," is now a tropical storm according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, or JMA. The storm has acquired an international name, "Wipha," which means "splendor" or "luster" in the Thai language.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) and DOST-PAGASA are now classifying the tropical disturbance east of the Visayas as a tropical depression. DOST-PAGASA has already given it a local name, "crising," while it has yet to be named by JMA with an international name.

DOST-PAGASA said that the chances of the low-pressure area located east of Luzon becoming a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours are now "HIGH." If it becomes a cyclone, it will be called "Bising" locally in the Philippines.

A low-pressure area continues to persist east of Luzon. According to DOST-PAGASA, the weather disturbance now has a medium chance of development within the next 24 to 48 hours while still remaining over the Philippine Sea.

And yet another disturbance has formed over the Philippine sea east of northern luzon in the Philippines. the current outlook from DOST-PAGASA shows that this weather disturbance is unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hrs for now.

We now have our first named storm from the Japanese meteorological agency (JMA) in the northwestern pacific basin, and its name is #Wutip! TS #Wutip is forecast to track WNW and may make landfall over Hainan province, China as a severe tropical storm (STS) at peak.

Bulusan volcano in Sorsogon continues to be rattled by many earthquakes. Sulfur dioxide flux was measured at 531 t/d, while a voluminous white steam-laden plume was observed reaching 400 meters above the active vent. Alert level 1 remains over the volcano. #BulusanVolcano

Taal volcano in Batangas continues to rumble. The monitoring network of PHIVOLCS recorded a total of 40 volcanic earthquakes, including six tremor episodes lasting between 6-8 mins. Crater degassing activity was observed weakly, while SO₂ emission only averaged at 997 t/d on 02 May. #TaalVolcano

Activity at Mt. Bulusan volcano remains elevated, according to PHIVOLCS. A 77-minute eruption was recorded yesterday from 7:43 to 9:00 p.m. The volcano also had 1 ash emission for 6 minutes and recorded 66 volcanic earthquakes.

A second phreatic explosion 🌋 occurred at Mt. Bulusan volcano at 07:43 p.m tonight, as confirmed by PHIVOLCS. As of 9 p.m, the eruption has ceased according to the agency. While the eruption is ongoing, several areas surrounding the volcano have reported ash fall through various photos & videos.

DOST PHIVOLCS bulletin of the 24-hour summary observation of Mt. Kanlaon's activity showing both seismicity, sulfur dioxide degassing, plume activity and height, and ground deformation parameters of the volcano. Kanlaon volcano has remained under alert level 3 indicating magmatic unrest since 09 Dec 2024. Under alert level 3, there should be no people living or entering into the expanded danger zone of 6 km from the crater. Additionally, flying of any aircraft close to the main summit/crater is strictly prohibited.
