Here’s a way to respond to them. Batting average isn’t meaningless—it’s just one piece of the puzzle. It measures a player’s ability to get hits, which is still a fundamental offensive skill. Advanced metrics like OBP, OPS, and wRC+ add important context, but they don’t replace BA. They build on it.

I don’t disagree that the Mets needed a corner infield prospect—and Billy Amick fits that need. He can play both first and third base but is hitting just .217 with 108 strikeouts. I just expected a stronger overall return.
