Purple Milkweed—Asclepias purpurascens—doing their thing in SW PA USA. This species is well suited to gardens as it forms fairly tight clumps rather than sprawling rhizomatous colonies, and thrives in the base-rich dry-mesic soil in full to part sun typical to urban and suburban built environments.
Purple milkweed leaves and flowers, some inflorescences in bud (7), some open (4). The small Flowers are in close clusters with 20-30 flowers per inflorescence. The buds range from green to pink-purple. The flowers are typical milkweed shape with 5 purple petals forming up-curved horns; the central axis of the flowers is dusty white. The flowers are slightly fragrant, like sweet wheat farina. The leaves are green with pink/purple veins, and slightly fuzzy to touch, broadly ovate leaves 4-5times longer than wide.

Taenidia integerimma—yellow pimpernel doing its lacey graceful thing, which happens on calcareous soils in light shade in our area (SW PA USA). Black swallowtail butterfly larvae eat the leaves which smell like celery. Wee bees, wasps, beetles, and flies visit the flowers. Grow some and enjoy!

I told the White House the state must lead the investigation. Let state investigators secure justice. As we process the scene, stay peaceful and give them space. The State has the personnel to keep people safe – federal agents must not obstruct our ability to do so.

Our land needs care from highly trained people, but they are being fired. We have to stop them. We need to force congress to act on our behalf.
