Info from Save Dunedin Live Music facebook page image is a screengrab of a post there, full info in alt text
Save Dunedin Live Music

Kia Ora Otepoti Music People.

The Otepoti Live Music Action Plan refresh is underway, this is where the council looks at the plan, then looks at where we are at and decides what needs to be added or ticked off as done, it's basically outlining the commitments (and funding) the DCC will make to support live music over the next 3 years.

We were hoping to run some of our community huis but life is busy busy busy so we won't get the chance before the feedback is done, however we still want to hear from the music community in Dunedin and advocate on your behalf to get the best out our city and support our music ecosystem.

So, we have designed a short survey to capture what's in your head and your thoughts on the most important issues facing live music in our city.

It'll only take a minute, the survey is also up on www.savedunedinlivemusic.com for you to share, spread it far and wide and ensure live music is protected and supported in our awesome little city.

We are on a timeline here so it would be great to get as much feedback as possible before the evening of Monday the 17th August.

this notice is on UBS facebook page but doesn't mention timeframes? (this is as much as I know) image: UBS explaining their relocation to campus (full info is in alt text)
"UNIVERSITY BOOK SHOP
For all booklovers, everywhere.

OUSA has made the very difficult decision to relocate and reshape the University Bookshop (UBS).

We acknowledge that this is difficult and distressing news for the wider literary community. UBS has been a special place for readers, writers and students alike and we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported the shop over the years.

Likewise, NZ Post not having a presence in the new store will be frustrating to many.
The bookshop will be moving on campus at the University of Otago and will primarily serve the student market, with the main products being textbooks and essential stationery.

As a charity OUSA serves the student community and remains committed to providing textbooks, stationery and academic resources on campus.
We extend our sincere thanks to the passionate and dedicated UBS staff who have made the store such an important part of Dunedin's cultural life for many years

Please take this final opportunity to support UBS by browsing and participating in our sales."

And another frickin basic submission on Conservation Amendment Act submissions due by MIDDAY 12pm Monday 13th July Forest & Bird have some notes on why this bill is shite www.forestandbird.org.nz/campaigns/sa... image is a screengrab of my submission, full is in alt text
"Conservation Amendment Bill

I oppose this bill. It does not uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi. It guts the Conservation Act of its focus on conservation and grants too much power to one Minister.

I grew up having access to Mount Aspiring National Park, able to go for walks and tramps with family and friends. This bill would endanger some of what makes this area important for us recreationally and spiritually.

I recommend this bill be thrown out."

Just did a real basic submission against the Climate Change Response (Tort Liability) Amendment Bill. Image is a screengrab of it. Full copy is in alt text. The info provided by Lawyers for Climate Action, linked by Bronwyn below, was helpful
"Climate Change Response (Tort Liability)
Amendment Bill

I oppose this bill.
It does not uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
It is not fair to do legislation like this as the court case is proceeding and just so government cannot be held to account.
Aotearoa New Zealanders have a right to bring civil proceedings against the Crown, this proposed bill would breach that right.
This bill should not proceed any further.
The Crown, and any other corporations that are known and proven to have adverse impacts on our environment and climate, should be held to account."

Submission of Jasmin Taylor

Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill

My/our comments:
I am a Pakeha cisgender woman and I oppose this bill in its entirety.

It breaks my heart that this bill, and the rhetoric from Ministers proposing it, dehumanises my family, friends and community who are trans, intersex, non-binary. They are having to constantly fight for their rights to be realised and honoured.

This proposed bill won't do me any favour or offer me any "protection" whatsoever. Recognition and celebration of the expansiveness of gender/s would.
Pay equity would. Addressing colonialism, capitalism, patriarchy, ableism and misogyny would. Properly funding and resourcing healthcare systems would.
Properly funding and resourcing research by women, intersex and non-binary folk would. Being a better Te Tiriti partner would. Paying a universal basic income would!

My/our recommendations:
Do not let this bill proceed any further, chuck it out.

Can watch my submission here: vimeo.com/1204033109 (23:45-29:30) there is NZSL, audio and auto captions for this section images are my transcript, full text is in alt text
1/4

(Started off signing - Tēnā koutou katoa, thank you for the opportunity to speak today. I will ask NZSL Interpreter to sign for me today because NZSL is my second language and I have things I want to say that I don't know how to sign)

I oppose this bill

it is blatant disrespect

it dishonours whānau hauā, Tangata whaikaha, Māori Turi, Deaf and disabled people, the United Nations and Disabled Peoples Organisations Coalition which government is mandated to listen to. the coalition commissioned and published reports via Donald Beasley Institute on this very topic of disability support services

the proposed law, under guise of trying to avoid the responsibility of being an employer, is rewriting and reframing disability support services in a way that does not uphold Deaf and disabled people's rights2/4

if it is anything, it's an admittance that the current system is failing us and that government is in breach of UNCRPD

to propose this, after Minister Upston stated last year that "NZ is an international leader on disability rights" (wild!) The government deciding what is disability support services legislation without proper partnership with Deaf and disabled community?! - not the way

it's obviously not a coincidence that this government does not honour Palestinian peoples rights and Aotearoa's obligations as signatory to the Geneva convention

it's not a coincidence that the government is dishonouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and breaching the rights of trans, intersex and non-binary people. Govt doesn't get to dictate to us what our gender is or what our support is. its our right to determine that for ourselves

I want to show you this writing and artwork by Olly Costelloe, it has direct relevance to this bill as well as other bills currently up for legislation. It's called "Letting go of the Gender Binary"

"The gender binary has its roots in colonisation. It was and is used as a form of hierarchy and control. Yet when we look back at history we can witness long lineages of human societies with gender expansive people! All over the world we see a dynamic spectrum of plants, animals and other living beings embodying the same truth that we exist on a planet of beautiful and diverse possibilities! No two people are the same, why should our genders be? [or our supports, for example] When we let go of gender binary thinking, it frees us all to be our true selves.
Self-determination is a human right! When we practice using someone's pronouns, when we affirm gender expansive existences, we create networks of care, we create a safer world for all"

It is directly relevant to this bill as well.4/4

so how can the government do the right thing?
Throw out this bill and start from scratch. Build legislation WITH us. Implement these recommendations that Donald Beasley Institute published on behalf of the DPO Coalition, the recommendations are from us Deaf and disabled people.

Aotearoa Te Waipounamu: community solidarity Submissions for Social Security (Jobseeker Support and Accommodation Supplement) Amendment Bill close at 11:59pm on Wednesday 10th June I read the bill & the words "fiscal sustainability" grated so bad coming from this govt image: screengrab
"Submission of Jasmin Taylor

Social Security Jobseeker Support and Accommodation Supplement)
Amendment Bill

My/our comments:
I oppose this bill. If government wants to practice "fiscal sustainability" it should tax corporations and wealthy people properly instead of giving them tax cuts. Or you know, government could borrow funds to invest in our young people and our communities. Another way to practice fiscal sustainability would be to fully implement the recommendations made by Welfare Expert Advisory Group. Doing the right thing by our people benefits all of us.

We pride ourselves on being a nation that gives people a fair go, this bill does the opposite. Not every young person can or wants to be financially supported by their parents. We have a welfare system because all of us in our society have a shared responsibility for each other, we can provide equitable support to those who need it without making them jump through hoops every time.

My/our recommendations:
I recommend this bill not progress any further, it should be stopped."

"Clear threat

I was baffled to see the government vote through the first reading of a Bill which pretends to define what a man and a woman is.
It is an attempt to score some cheap culture war points against the LGBTQ+ community, in its plans to redefine male and female as human biological male and human biological female across all legislation.
This Bill only defines how
ridiculous bigotry is.

White Armband Day 31 May Commemorating the day in Prijedor (Bosnia and Herzegovina) 1992 when non-Serbian people were ordered to wear white armbands if going outside (and to display white flags or sheets on their houses). Mass atrocities followed Local authorities still refuse to acknowledge it
