Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 13/08/2026Looks like Apple featured my Franzbrötchen app on the App Store 🤩 040
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 29/07/2026My latest newsletter is now on the front page of Hacker News. This means everyone will know about the Stadtpark. :) 010
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 30/03/2026I just shipped a new Peek update that lets you manage customer reviews for your apps: read, translate, and reply using Apple Intelligence, all in one place. More features coming soon, so let me know if you have any feedback! apps.apple.com/us/app/peek-... 010
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 25/12/2025I also had similar observations related to "engineer's disease" and "brain-rotting drug" but didn't know that there were already defined terms for those behaviours. 020
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 25/12/2025Just finished reading More Everything Forever by @adambecker.bsky.social. Probably one of the best books about the tech industry, its prominent figures, their ideologies, and motivations. I think everyone in the tech industry should read this book. 330
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 24/12/2025If you had invested in European stocks instead of the S&P 500 at the beginning of the year, you would have earned about 15% more in gains. 010
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 20/12/2025I also took a couple of pictures, but unfortunately, my iPhone couldn't really capture the beauty of the fog. 🥲 100
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 01/12/2025I think this is the main problem in the tech industry. It works perfectly for coders, but not any other discipline so far. Sure, they will make money but I'm not sure if that will be enough. 200
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 30/11/2025I'm so happy to have finally found "homemade" Panettone! I first tried it thanks to an Italian colleague who brought one baked by his Nonna, and it was absolutely delicious with the soft and fluffy texture. I've tried store-bought versions before, but none of them came close. 000
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 28/11/2025Franzbrötchen v1.2 is ready! Christmas markets, weekly markets, stumbling stones, iMessage Sticker, playgrounds and more! apps.apple.com/de/app/franz... 030
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 20/11/2025This was my best app launch yet, over 1.000 downloads in Germany! I really wish Apple provided a city-level breakdown so I could see how many came from Hamburg. My guess is that Hamburg has around 500.000 iPhone users, so there’s still a long way to go. :) 130
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 15/11/2025Franzbrötchen v1.1 is ready! apps.apple.com/de/app/franz... 080
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 01/11/2025Custom Product Pages are perfect for Franzbrötchen, but I wish Apple would allow you to add keywords for each custom page instead of limiting you to picking from the existing keyword pool. 010
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 31/10/2025I wasn't really expecting my app to become more popular than Bible. 😅 040
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 30/10/2025WOW! Franzbrötchen is in the 6th position in the Reference category in Germany! 😳 010
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 30/10/2025Happy to announce my new app: Franzbrötchen – Hamburg City Super-App. A first of its kind, the app lets Hamburg locals effortlessly explore their city, get involved, and make everyday life easier. App Store: apps.apple.com/app/apple-st... 033
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 29/10/2025It is approved in the first try! I was planning to release it next month, but since it's already approved, why not release it tomorrow? :) 000
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 28/10/2025Over three years ago, I had an idea for an app but knew little about iOS development. Since then, I've released 9 apps while gathering resources and refining the concept. In the past few months, I've spent 100+ hours building it and just submitted it to the App Store. And the best part? It's free. 320
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 19/10/2025If you're developing apps for Apple platforms, please don't forget to fill out the survey. 000
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 18/10/2025Looks like OpenAI started to limit the free usage of ChatGPT. Well, someone has to pay for the compute I guess. 020
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 15/10/2025The price of M5 MacBook Pro is decreased by 100€, around 5% for the base model. 100
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 07/10/2025This is new on macOS 26. Normally, when I leave iTerm open, macOS can't update the system because it can't quit iTerm. This notification will definitely remind me to quit the app :) 100
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 15/09/2025Many people assume the iPhone Air has worse battery life due to its thin design. While that's true compared to the iPhone 17, it actually offers the same battery life as the iPhone 16 Plus. 010
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 18/08/2025I've been investing in the S&P 500 ETF for the past seven years, but I stopped this year. The main reason I invest in ETFs is for diversification. However, when nearly 40% of the index's value is concentrated in just the top 10 companies, it no longer feels diversified enough for me. 110
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 14/08/2025I've probably visited every elbgold in Hamburg since I enjoy their coffee, but it's great to have the same quality at home! I buy my beans from the local roasters, and I'm planning to write a blog post about them at some point. 000
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 08/08/2025I really enjoy discovering new cafes in Hamburg. You can always find some interesting stuff :) 010
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 21/07/2025Just finished "Apple in China" by @patrickmcgee.bsky.social. One of the most interesting books I've read about Apple. If you're curious about China's tech rise, how communism works there, Apple's supplier relationships, or why it's so hard for them to shift production, this is a must-read. #BookSky 071
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 10/07/2025It seems that while everyone believes AI coding tools help developers save time on coding, they actually spend more time using them. Study: metr.org/blog/2025-07... 111
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 05/07/2025For a long time, I was primarily investing in Vanguard S&P 500 ETF. However, this year I decided to shift my strategy and began investing in Vanguard Developed Europe ex-UK. One thing I noticed is that this ETF pays more than twice the dividends compared to the S&P 500. 🧐 030
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 04/07/2025When you live in Hamburg and can't decide what to do at the weekend. Too many options. 010
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 30/06/2025Finally finished Doom: The Dark Ages. It was really fun! I liked the music, gameplay, and graphics. On the other hand, I couldn't find any motivation to collect the items since I quickly maxed out my preferred setup. I think it doesn't worth 70€, so play through Xbox Game Pass if you have it. 010
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 26/06/2025Finished reading Barry Ritholtz's book, Hot Not to Invest. If you're new to investing, it's packed with some really helpful advice. Otherwise, reading about things like ETFs, Dollar Cost Averaging, and long-term investing can make you feel more confident about your investment strategy. #booksky 160
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 18/06/2025While Foundation Models API doesn't support Private Cloud Compute, Shortcuts does. Interesting 🧐 000
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 17/06/2025Installing macOS 26... I've a couple of app ideas, hopefully they will be ready by this fall. 😇 120
Mert Bulan @mertbulan.com · 09/06/2025I had the best Schnitzel of my life today at a place called Andy's Krablergarten in Munich. 🤤 The Bavarians really don't mess around! 020
