To be fair it's on me for not reading the community project guidelines better, it did specifically state 'make sure it can run on Chocolate Doom', and I then proceeded to not do that. Whoops. But yeah, pretty sure I went for vanilla aesthetic rather than true vanilla. Lesson learned, I suppose

I think mine was as simple as just knowing that simply picking Doom: Doom 2 format on UDB wasn't all you needed to make a map vanilla, then spending about 15 hours making a map which was apparently too complex? I still don't know exactly what I did wrong. At least it wasn't weeks of work flushed out

Luckily the map in question was basically identical in size and scope to another project I was working on so I just re-used it for that. It'll be a while before I go back to it but I do want to learn the tricks at some point for sure.

So today I learned I know absolutely nothing about vanilla Doom mapping and every time I think I'm enjoying creating stuff and I'm proud of what I made, my confidence in my ability gets absolutely shut down 👍

The new Interpol album absolutely slaps.

What a bizarre and fuzzy feeling to see my work on the show that got me into Doom mapping.

That was my thinking when the Drake O'Brien Ovational Megawad was first announced. Then I ended up making a map for it and haven't looked back since. I will now always tell people...just make the damn map.

Turns out not having internet for 3 days really puts a dampener on streaming and uploading YouTube videos.

Tempted to do some sort of ridiculous follower goal. Like at 500 followers, 24 hour Sunlust stream. That'll take a damn long time to achieve/unlikely to ever happen.

Mike Merrick @merrick18818.bsky.social · 27/06/2026

Absolute goliath of a stream, 6 and a half hours, almost certainly my longest one ever. Some pretty epic maps beaten, and MAP06 of the solo WAD is basically done as well to wrap up the night. 3am and time for bed, I think. 😴 Cheers to all who hung out and chatted and suchlike, big love x

I make Doom maps and also play some Doom but I'm not very good at Doom so if you wanna watch someone die a lot I guess you're in the right place

RIP Bobby Prince. His music legacy will live on, making inspired music for Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, countless others. A true legend. And such a nice man, great musician, wonderful, fun-loving man, nothing but happy memories of him. A loss to the world.

Well I was going to do a mapping stream either yesterday or today but thanks to the skylight windows my place runs about 5 or 6 degrees hotter than outside so I've basically been dripping in sweat continuously for the last 72 hours. Fun.

Got a full week off work starting tomorrow and fuck all to do. Maybe I attempt to make a streaming comeback? Or maybe work on the YouTue channel I made last year and did fuck all with.

So currently I'm working on: - Ulysses, classic style LIVtex megawad. - The Back Room, an OTEX megawad which I've been restarting for 2 years. - Cuttings II, another set of rejected/unfinished maps. - The Drowned And The Saved, BTSX textured single episode wad. Maybe I'm spreading myself too thin.

One upside of using MIDI renditions of metal and hard rock songs is that it's getting me into a lot of bands I'd never really given a chance before. NIN, Enter Shikari and Pantera in particular.
