Like its so crazy that people prefer to use the slop extruder 5000 instead of undertaking the most pleasurable exertions of art-making

Opposition to generative AI is *everywhere*, but AI propaganda doesn’t want you to know that. The vast majority of people want human art, not AI counterfeits.

Truly the only podcast that makes me feel sane about gen AI because they cut through the hype so well and articulate critiques in was that I can't

The way AI is going to “kill everyone” is just by manufacturing consent for ever worse outcomes & conditions, like many governments do. It is a governing technology after all. And like bureaucracy it launders responsibility so the people & institutions who deploy it aren’t accountable for the harms

people working in a field doesn't just magically confer an ability to divine information. an AI worker saying they're worried still needs evidence beyond, "if this happens and this happens, then this bad thing will happen, and I just think it's pretty likely that it will"

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

To be clear, I think that The Walrus and whoever is doing pr for you is at fault for that. I think you were a little bit set up here to garner clicks 👍🏼

emma 🍉 @memily99.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
Yeah I know lol and you know that I know that. And you're right. People would be critical anyways, and that's what happens when you release a book of your opinions and research for public consumption. You don't have to read reviews or other people's responses but we actually are entitled to them
120
emma 🍉 @memily99.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
I said what I was critical of. The post I was responding to. You can read my further critiques, I read your book excerpt and wrote out my thoughts on here because I didn't want to judge based on the clickbait title. But I suggest you don't, if it's going to be taken in bad faith like this

emma 🍉 @memily99.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
It's true that "everyone is a bit bi" especially perpetuates the idea that a lesbian secretly can change her mind, but I really don't think you're the person to decide what needs to be said during pride month. I know you probably had no say about when your article when live but c'mon now

emma 🍉 @memily99.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
I will leave room for the fact that it's an excerpt but it felt a lot like my first drafts when I don't really know what my point is yet

emma 🍉 @memily99.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
Right?? Like actually there are whole online and offline communities based around enjoying hetero romance novels! Whole books focused on women's desires! and women DO get shamed for enjoying those books, THAT'S what we need to be pushing back against not... Women who identify as queer but date men

emma 🍉 @memily99.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
Her team set her up with this one. Also embarrassing for The Walrus, a company I have a lot of respect for 10/10

emma 🍉 @memily99.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
Conventionally attractive. all interesting conversations that she didnt touch. Anyways, capitalizing off of pride month to sell your book about how hard it is to be straight these days is REALLY not the move. 9/10
130
emma 🍉 @memily99.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
Like genuinely, is that your thesis? Because women are allowed to do that. To me, the root of this author's gripe is the pressure that women feel to look as, if not more, attractive than their partners. Or maybe with how women in general are shamed for their desires, especially if they aren't 8/10
130
emma 🍉 @memily99.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
We finally reach the conclusion of the article, which is that bimbo feminism (barbie reclaims bimbohood) is when women are sexy "tormentor[s] of men" and the author wants the kind of feminism where women can "look like crap while admiring good-looking men". Yeah girl!! ???? Who is stopping you? 7/10
230
emma 🍉 @memily99.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
The author asks whose fantasy it is that every night in Barbieland is a non-sexual girls' night. Well, I would say probably that of the little girls watching the movie, who like sleepovers with their friends and think boys have cooties. She then compares these girls nights to sorority houses ?? 6/10

emma 🍉 @memily99.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
But this movie critiques that Margot Robbie's Barbie never shows desire for anyone, specifically men, and that this was not a "feminist approach to female heterosexuality." I think her point about male desire being central to the plot is fair, because I also had critiques about this 5/10
