The club hailed the legendary forward "the greatest to ever have graced Portland Park" after he and his international teammates trained at the team's ground in June 1966.

While we're on the subject of Brazil and Pele, here's a remarkable shot of the Brazil icon at Portland Park, the home of Troon FC, then Troon Juniors. 📷 PA Media #worldcup

Great piece with Mark Mardell on the Today programme about Turkish Airlines chucking him off a flight because of his Parkinson’s. Read the full grisly story here www.facebook.com/share/p/19C1...

Found among my father’s old paperwork.
An old letter:

THE CITADEL OF THE UPRIGHT
26 HOWDEN STREET S.B.25
Christmas 1990

Perhaps you have heardof me and my nationwide campaign in the cause of temperance. Each year for the past 16 years I have made a tour of London and delivered a series of lectures on the evil of drinking.

On these tours I have been accompanied by my young friend and assistant, Clyde Lindstrom. Clyde, a young man of good family and excellent background, is a pathetic case whose life was ruined by excessive indulgence in whiskey, gambling and women.

Clyde would appear with me on the platform
wheezing, farting and belching while staring at the audience with bloodshot eyes while I would point him out as an example of what drinking could do for a person.

Last summer, unfortunately Clyde died.
A mutual friend has given me your name, and I wonder whether you would care to take Clyde's place on my spring lecture tour,

Yours sincerely,
Rev. Joseph Citerella.
