Welcome! Bienvenue! Serdecznie witamy! Willkommen!

As part of the MEM-ART UNI project, we cordially invite you to our kick-off event at the Hofburg in Vienna. The opening will be followed by a reading by author Vladimir Vertlib and a panel discussion, including contributions from the audience.

The program continues after a lunch break with a Memory Performance Lab, which takes the testimony of Lisa Rosenbaum (1932–2026) as a starting point to explore the space between historical testimony and one’s own present or personal connection to the Shoah.
Following a reading of the testimony by Anne Rosier (Lisa’s niece), participants will gather their impressions, questions, and personal reflections. The groups will then develop short performance pieces from various media perspectives, culminating in a joint presentation.

Please note that the readings and the workshop will be held in German.

We’re looking forward to seeing you!

When: Thursday, 8. October 2026, 10.00 a.m. – 2.15 p.m.
Where: Schreyvogelsaal inside the Hofburg, 1010 Vienna

What happens to memories of persecution under National Socialism when they become stories told through literature, film or performance? These questions lie at the heart of our project MEM-ART UNI, enabling students to explore the possibilities and limits of biographical memory and oral transmission.
The left image half shows an old photograph of a family of three: a mother and a father, holding up their child between them. They're standing at the Harbour of Lindau at Lake Constance, Germany. Behind them within the lake, there's a lighthouse and the statue of a lion on a pedestal. The right half is a modern photograph and shows their descendant Or Rozenfeld, a young man, standing at the exact same spot, present day. Both image halves are black and white.
