A pencil portrait of May's OC Eliane, drawn as The Girl with the Pearl Earring. She looks over her shoulder, her hair spilling out of a her hair wrap. A big pearl hangs from her ear.

some thoughts on blending and hard + soft shadows: jasmineteas.notion.site/on-blending-... thank u anon for the question!!! 👨‍🍳🫡💗

anon question on tumblr: "miss maymay!! i had an art question and i was really hoping you can help 😭 i hope you’ve been well!! much love 🤍

how do you blend? how do you know where to have a soft shading and where to have a hard shading? how do you combine the two?? i seem to really struggle with blending colours and i want a more painterly style but don’t know how to go about achieving it. "

going in a very different direction now, i love sophie mcpike's work (www.sophiemcpike.com/gallery) which is just wonderful 🤯 she creates rly whimsical and fun sketchbook spreads with pattern and quilt elements as well :3 !!

maymay @meltypancake.bsky.social · 06/06/2026

dean cornwell - the way he makes use of negative space in his compositions is just mindboggling to me 😫😫😫😫😫 and i love how it creates such interesting shapes framing the main artworks... . huge point of inspo... dis is what it means to be in artistic shambles maybe

140

maymay @meltypancake.bsky.social · 06/06/2026

mead schaeffer - his work is incredible In General but i'm most intrigued by his limited color palettes and clear value organization! it makes for such striking images (it makes me SICK how good it is 😂😂😂)

150

maymay @meltypancake.bsky.social · 06/06/2026

odilon redon - his art is really haunting in the best of ways. if you're not into creepy looking stuff maybe skip this one 😂 i do rec his paintings though (comparatively less unsettling) for his vivid colors as well as his use of textures!!

130

maymay @meltypancake.bsky.social · 06/06/2026
