Operation Bounce House shows readers that Matt Dinniman is far from a one-trick pony. His brilliant combination of humor, fast-paced storytelling, and characterization is just as well-suited to standard narrative as it is to the LitRPG genre where he built not only a name for himself, but a devoted and passionate fanbase. To best describe this story to fans of existing pop culture science fiction, it's as if John Scalzi spent a few weeks hanging out with Ernest Cline, before tackling his own variation of Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.

It doesn't take much analysis to conclude that the push by some people to accept Generative AI as a valid tool is rooted in a strange sense of entitlement. They act as if they deserve to be artists without doing the work required to be an artist. They talk as if all it takes to make someone an artist is the desire to have made art--sans the actual process of making it.

Some people don't seem to grasp the reality that Department of Homeland Security agents, be they ICE or CBP, have no authority to demand a U.S. Citizen produce identification. TSA agents are, of course, an exception when someone is passing through airport security. Customs and Border Protection can naturally require identification at border crossings. That's the extent to which DHS agents can compel a U.S.

It's not difficult to see through to the root of so many of our problems when I look around at the nation I'm living in. Anyone pretending that White Supremacy hasn't been the underlying substrate of America since before its founding is lying, too stupid to be trusted, or in such profound denial that I doubt there's any recovery. Worse than that, I can't ignore that a whole lot of the ridiculous, regressive nonsense we've been dealing with over the last decade, as a nation (on display for the global stage), derives from the altogether too-widespread sentiment that one particular Black man did not know his place and refused to stay in his lane.

At some point, we have to come to terms with the fact that a whole swath of the American public has literally no consistent set of values or beliefs. The absurdity of it all is that they're also the same ones who are so desperate to shove their beliefs down the throats of everyone around them. They're the crowd that spent much of 2020 shouting "Back The Blue" and "Blue Lives Matter!" That is, until the police stood in the way of them storming the Capitol Building or arrested them when they were acting as agitators at a protest.

My new short story collection consists of 13 tales spanning the last decade of my writing career. I put a great deal of time and consideration into what I should include in this collection, focused on providing a wide range of stories comparable to my previous collection of short stories, May Cause Unexplained Ocular Bleeding. I wanted to be sure there was something for everyone in the pages of this book.
