We are so thrilled to be included in a special book by Marisa Giannasi which is to be published next year! A Miscellany of British Bookshops is a celebration of bookshops across the UK and we will be in it! To be chosen is an honour, especially for one of the tiniest bookshops in the country!

It’s a sunny day here in the Borders but with a touch of autumn approaching! Perfectly timed is this wonderful new picture book by Hollie Hughes and Britta Teckentrup The Green Child. Beautifully illustrated, a thoughtful look at our world, environmental change and a love of nature. #childrensbooks

Spooky season is approaching! We’re getting into the Halloween vibe! Jockula is a darkly comic novel about a reluctant vampire in Edinburgh and we’re very sure it will be a hit! Written by Galashiels-based writer @mealygarage.bsky.social, we’re happy to promote another local writer #localbookshop
A featured new book cover. Against a blood red sky rising above the cityscape of Edinburgh, in large black, Gothic letters can be read the word "Jockula". A new local author now in stock in The Reading Room, Gayle Ramage.

It’s our fifth birthday today! Has it only been five years? Times are tough and so we thank all our wonderful customers from the Borders and beyond. Every town should have an independent bookshop and we are proud to be in the heart of #Melrose.

We are delighted to showcase the best of #ScottishBooks in our bookshop, from history to gardening, fiction to children’s books. Just in, we are thrilled to have the new A Plate is a Homeland by Luna Issa - a look at the idea of home and diaspora and the joy of Iraqi food, in a Scottish context.

It's Walter Scott's birthday and he'd be 255 today if he were still around! Perhaps more than any other writer before or since, Scott helped shape the modern Scotland we know today and we always keep his novels and supernatural short stories in stock. Have you read any Scott? #scottishborders

As you might know, Gordy is a bit of a Scottish history fan, especially of our early history. From clambering around ruins to hugging standing stones, he loves it! Our bookshops stock ever-growing numbers of Scottish history books. This, Picts: Scourge of Rome, Rules of the north, a firm favourite.
