I am Dutch, so every morning I grab my emmertje & my wooden clogs and I go fight the sea.⚔️🌊 I go out there, and punch the sea, and beat it back with a long stick, and I tell it to back off! 💪 It usually listens except for that one time in 1953...👀 (1/?)

I wasn't always a full time #author with several successful books in print. (1/11) Truth be told, I failed 100x more than I succeeded. But some of the projects I worked on have paved the way to the artist and writer I am today. Here's a quick timeline of some of my projects:

I managed to build the famous Dutch dam around Louise Blackwick's *The Book of Chaos*. I hope it doesn't rain—or that no child cries and breaks my dam.

In the Netherlands we're not allowed to cry, because every teardrop is another soldier lost to the ocean. Also, none of that is true. Erm, probably. But a burst pipe flooded my basement last night, and it reminded me of the fragility of our everyday life in the Netherlands. 💔 (4/?)

Yesterday, when I left my house, the sea suddenly came around the corner, so had to whip out my sword and fight it! 👀 Naturally, I won. But my neighbour, Jan de Jong, wasn't as lucky.😢 I'd shed a tear for him, but tears are forbidden by government decree.⛔ (3/?)

It is mandatory for every Dutch citizen over 18 to be a Sea Keeper. We call it the "Nederlandse waterplicht" We are obligated by the government to fight the ocean every single day, otherwise we must pay a "BOETE".😮‍💨 (2/?)

Welp, every now and again, if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing... 👀💙📚 #writing #epic #darkfantasy #cosmichorror #timeloops #pocketrealities #magicsystems

When someone says “Vivian Amberville”, as a book series, they generally think of 5 things:

1. They think of intricate TIME LOOPS that fold time and space into impossible shapes;

2. They think of POCKET REALITIES, such as liminal spaces and cosmic backrooms, where time is both instant and infinite;

3. They think of reality-warping COMPLEX MAGIC SYSTEMS where different characters can fold, twist, bend, loop or even cut the very fabric of REALITY itself;

4. They think of a dense, TAPESTRY-LIKE PLOT supported by a huge cast of characters, each with their own unique character arc;

5. and finally, they think of eldritch creatures from the abyss of reality, which adds certain elements of COSMIC HORROR to the narrative.

This is, by far, the silliest promo video I've ever shot.🫣 If we never met before, my name is Louise Blackwick: a fantasy/sci-fi author based in the Netherlands.✒️📖 I'm mostly known as the author of the #VivianAmberville fantasy series & the creator of NEON SCIENCE-FICTION. Please don't meme me! 💀

oooh, you are slowly arriving at the true cosmic horror elements of the story. What follows is going to be something special. Enjoy the ride, Don!😀 (I painted a wee artwork related to where you are at in the book, but I'm afraid it doesn't quite do it justice.🥲)
