I was 2 years old when the French finally closed the prison at Devils Island. Truman was president, Stalin was in power. Feels like things have not gotten much better.

I solved the problems I’d had with Logitech mice decades ago by not buying any more of them. I use $12 technet mice instead. My iPads/iPhones support button mapping natively and I got an app to do it on the mac mini. Fuck logitech with a big square cinder block.

In his theory of Asynchronous Evolution, V. Geodakyan asserts that females exhibit a broader reaction norm and males exhibit a narrower one. Is this a fact or a postulation that I’m too dense to detect? Because subsequent assertions hinge on it.

Sylvia Beach interviewed about the post WW1 expatriate community in Paris goes on to describe her life in Paris under the Nazis and her rescue by Ernest Hemingway. We can all take heart from Sylvia Beach. www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1Zb...

This is a young Sylvia Beach and the writer James Joyce in the doorway of her Paris bookshop around 1922. She was the first to publish his work ‘Ulysses’. Her stories about expatriate Paris post WWI charmed me and I admit to a bit of a crush. For more: www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1Zb...

Sympathy with orcs at this point is proof of a disconnected world-view which imo is beyond redemption. The PR benefit otoh is that it is evidence of the fate that awaits fodder and proof of the will of Ukraine to evict the invaders. It is ugly and it is necessary.

From a human factors perspective iOS is a freaking mess of inconsistent design with controls and even methods varying wildly from app to app, most egregiously the native ones.

Indifference is a separation of your higher self from physical reality, emotions, and thoughts. It is detachment from the outcomes so the rational mind can observe events from a clear distance.

Marcus Aurelius emphasizes that we must be indifferent about things that make no difference. It is not about being numb to life nor is it about ignoring our emotions.

Apple is disabling F1 in the TV app AND in the browser on iPad if you have not updated the OS to their latest POS version. This is new for the Miami race, it worked fine previously but now “there are difficulties displaying this content in this browser” It’s their f’ing browser ffs.

”In 1957, hydrogen bomb architect Edward Teller and other Livermore weapons scientists proposed a gigawatt-level electrical plant, based on steam generation from 1 megaton bombs dropped every 12 hours into a 1,000 ft cavity. American research on such plants continued throughout the Cold War.” wiki

F1 on Apple iOS prior to the new (hated) version 26 is possible only by updating your device to the latest version or by watching via browser at tv.apple.com and logging into your Apple account. This is by design to force us to update, which I will not do.

Hey Apple, wanna sell me some more stuff? Make a 13” or 15” touchscreen Neo tablet running MacOS that can take bluetooth keyboards and mice. Downgradable to Sequoia would be nice.

The best F1 action I’ve seen in 30 years is over on the soon-defunct F1Tv site. It’s a series of documentaries called ‘Inside Tracks’. They’re short and are entirely in-car cameras with commentary but mostly team radio exchanges, they synopsize whole races. They are riveting.

Same here, the complaints against Tahoe are legion especially among old timers who’ve been with Apple for years. I just snagged a 2018 Mini for $150 and updated it to Sequoia. It’s not the snappiest but compliments my iPads nicely. I’m a once-upon-a-time Unix developer but new to Macs.

Dear Apple: Why have my two iPads and one iPhone consumed 3.5GB of my data plan in just over 24 hours solely through traffic to Apple servers? I quit using Amazon tablets because I couldn’t control them. iCloud is off, backups are off, unused apps deleted. OS Versions are all 17.x.

I was shocking to see bright pink schoolgirl things there in that place, where the property of those killed or wounded in theatre are processed for return to the family. The staff there, always deeply respectful, were especially somber.

Thinking today of Princess Samuels, a 22yo woman who wanted to see the world and serve her country but was killed in Iraq. I happened to be at the Joint Personal Effects Depot when her property was being processed, 12 foot lockers filled with pink girly stuff & hello kitty backpacks. What a waste.

It was the same when Kennedy was shot. Anyone who questioned the official explanation was scorned and humiliated. It required the ascension of a new generation to openly question it and that took 30 fucking years.
