5/8 As such it shows that citizen journalism forces people to show the reality of the matter, and highlight angles that traditional media may skip. This shifts narrative greatly, the power then lies with audience to decide who to believe or if to pay attention to matter at all.

4/8 Traditional channels were known as the watchdogs of society, responsible to report the truth regarding what is happening in an unbiased manner. But as the time progressed and the authenticity became questionable, people took matters to their own hands, increasing transparency of events.

3/8 Citizen Journalists document events as they happen, it is the immediacy of news sharing that overpowers traditional media. Traditional channels often go through editorial days, and are often forced by citizen footage to react and follow-up on news that otherwise might never be covered by them.

2/8 Citizen journalism is the done by the people, while traditional media is done for the people, the various news channels or websites. The former allows people to get the whole story of what is happening, the latter controls of what goes out, often controlling information flow into the world.

1/8 Question 1) How does citizen journalism challenge traditional media's influence? make sure to explain the Hawthorn Effect. Give an example from the last 5 years where a citizen journalist has been able to exert power by covering events that may have been overlooked by mainstream media.

8/8 The example illustrates that how media tries to push certain propagandas in order to gain public interest. But right research shows that the French channel had deliberately recorded parts of interest to them and only showed what supported their story.

4/8 This distrust in traditional media fuels citizen journalism, it is a constant loop, of being exposed and covered and lying. Citizen journalists often validate each other as well, creating alternative information ecosystems that feel more transparent to their audiences.

Mehra @mehra23.bsky.social · 20/11/2025
3/8 As such repeated exposure to false news, forces people to do their own research. Being lied to over and over again has only motivated people to realize the truth on their own. but it does not end there. People have taken into their hands to report news as well, bringing about citizen journalism.

Mehra @mehra23.bsky.social · 20/11/2025
2/8 Traditional media has now become a filter for news, deciding which news gets out and which don't. Audiences feel this a deliberate move to control public perception on events, and alter the realities often reflected by citizen journalists.

Mehra @mehra23.bsky.social · 20/11/2025
1/8 Many people believe traditional media is biased — influenced by corporate ownership, political agendas, or the need for sensationalism to drive clicks and viewership.

Mehra @mehra23.bsky.social · 20/11/2025
Question 2: In this era of 'fake news' and 'do your own research', why do people NOT trust traditional media? What is the connection to citizen journalism? Any examples should be from the last 5 years.

6/11 It happens in both journalism styles, but very differently, In traditional media it is often practiced to change already established opinions, often to gloss over previous matters. On the contrary, in live-streaming people start to act in a more acceptable manner as a result of being recorded.

5/11 This is where the Hawthorne effect comes in: a psychological phenomenon where people alter their behaviours a result of being observed. In the context of citizen journalism, it happens when authorities, celebs, or anyone might behave differently because they are being recorded by someone.

Also I believe, that if social media had not existed, Khaby's humor would have never found its audience. It is only social media that allows all and every talents to find their right footing and support, without it, we would never know many artists who rule our social feeds with their content.

This goes on to show how Khaby's fame is direct product of democratization of web. He proves that anyone, regardless of status, resources or connections can get famous by simply posting relatable content on social media. It does not matter what you do, if you do it right, internet will be generous.

5/5 The spokesperson from Century 21, world's largest residential real-estate sales organization said, "Hate has no place within the Century 21 brand". This goes on to show that in today's digital era, the verdicts are not always given in courts, a simple post is enough to make or break someone.

4/5 As the incident was shared online by the waiter, soon the internet came to their rescue, and Stephanie faced severe backlash for her remarks. With her failed attempts to disregard the incident as a scam, she was then laid off from her 21 years long held position of real estate agent.

3/5 It was again proven that social media is not forgiving. Once online, you will be found and judged. So was the case of Ohio women, Stephanie Lovins, who left xenophobic remarks on a bill with zero tip. But, what she did not realize is that this would cost her entire career.
